Aesthetic dentistry is not there to improve health but to improve looks. Therefore it is not strictly necessary.
However many people are unaware braces can be worn at any age. Indeed I have patients in their sixties who are delighted to be wearing braces as they were very conscious of their teeth but didn't think anything could be done about them other than invasive crowning etc. A dentist may suggest treatments so you are aware of the options but it doesn't mean you have to take up the option, you are just better informed.
're invisalign this is an expensive system because the laboratory costs for a simple case start from £1500 and can go up beyond £ 3000. Ordinary train track braces are cheaper as they don't have such high lab costs, just visits to the dentist every six weeks for on average 18 months.
I can see why a patient would be offfered braces if they had a need or were troubled by the way their teeth looked. In my own case my teeth aren't crooked and I'm happy with them:) My feeling is that the dentist would have benefitted more than I would0 -
A well informed patient is one who is aware of all their choices. A gap may not bother them but that doesn't mean they shouldn't be informed about ways a gap could be closed.
One of the biggest complaints many patients say is "my dentist never told me " and indeed a dentist can be found negligent if they don't give all treatment options to a patient even if they haven't asked for them.
Your dentist was giving you a treatment option which you were fee to take up or not. It was your choice but informed dentistry is that offering people choices not assuming what they may or may not be interested in.0 -
