Faulty gas meter

Hi, new poster here and hoping someone can give me done guidance.
I have just had my British gas annual visit to service my boiler, the 2 engineers have informed my wife that the gas meter appears to be faulty in our favour. They claimed it is only clicking 8 out of 11. As a result they were unable to carry out the annual check and have told us to contact our supplier, also British gas and get them to check it out. My big fear in all this I am going to end up with a big bill from all this! This problem has not been picked up on previous annual visits. What would my best course of action be and what is the likely outcome in all this?
Many thanks,
Leej5

The best course of action is to contact your gas supplier, and they will probably want to adjust your gas bill if the meter has been under-reading.
What else do you expect to happen? If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -
How long are they likely to go back? What if the faults happened for a number of years? It's not been picked up on during the most recent annual visits, so could they only look at the last 12 months?0
