Surely they'll only live with it until the next MOT, when it'll have to be remedied if it restricts vision ?

And I would venture to suggest that many folk would opt for the ( presumably not overly expensive ) addition of windscreen cover when they take out the policy. I know I would, in the same way that I pay extra so I can have a courtesy car if mine is ever off the road for repairs. Like any insurance, I hope I'll never need it, but for the sake of an extra £20 a year I figure it's worth it.

People generally want the cheapest quote. They're not focusing on what would happen in the event of a claim, as long as the quote is the cheapest. Of course, a more discerning car owner will want to look at the benefits and features of their policy, but motor insurance is a requirement, which sends a load of desperate buyers into the hands of the all singing and dancing providers.

I'm amazed that windscreen cover hasn't been reviewed sooner; there are so many moody claims, and it seems to be a culture that a lot of people see no wrong in.

We removed windscreen cover from our company policy a few years ago - when an independnet dealer can supply a new screen for around £125-150 quid - seem daft paying 75.00 excess and also reduced our fleet policy by 1000.00. we recokend we would be replacing 10+ windscreens per year.

would always avoid the major rip off merchants like auto windscreens who quoted my 450 for a 150 screen

I only ever insure for things I can't afford to pay myself. The only exception being car hire excess insurance. I have read about so many arguments between people hiring cars and the hire companies that I pay for it. Probably silly in long term. My car insurance is £131 this year but I do have 24 years NCB. That is with all the 'extras' removed. The insurance companies are so keen to add the extras I know it makes sense to refuse.
