Back from camping 2 nights £25 campsite fees. About £30 spent on food/drinks and fun! I think I even got a bit sunburnt even though it wasn't really sunny at all!

Today's been a good day lunch out and cinema both on groupons and snacks from £land. Total cost today £7 (plus groupons already purchased!)

Home now and totally shattered. It's been such a busy week and the little one is definitely getting an earlier night (been up til 10 3 times this week!)

Finances are looking okay at the moment still waiting to complete my Halifax account and will go into Barclays next week to change my rubbish savings account into a current account so I can get the blue rewards (hopefully!). It's definaltely getting a bit better each month finance wise.

Does anyone save with a credit union? Was thinking its a good thing to do to support the local community. Not a lot just a couple of hundred pounds to see how it goes. I've heard the dividend can be between 0% (bad) and 8% (good!).

I like the idea of supporting the local community, and I already have a few hundred in funding circle which lends to small businesses so thought I might join the credit union?

Local Credit union applied for, need to take ID in Monday and will start small (£20 per month) see how it does.

Today caught up in my washing all on solar. Turned off the oil water heating so gonna rely on solar.

Had to do a big shop as had run out of quite a few gluten free (ie expensive) things so spent £65 this week. Ouch!

planted out last of the chitted potatoes in the bags I got from £land. That's the forth bag finished all for the cost of £4 and will be able to reuse the bags next year. First strawberry off the plants was eaten yesterday. And tomatoes I planted are looking good. Need to put out the salad veg next week as the temp goes up. All done using compost we have created in our compost maker and the fertiliser from the wormery. Total spends this year on veg for garden (including potatoes) £7!

Used to, but their dividend has been terrible of late, so money was better off elsewhere. Without meaning to troll, CUs strike me as being the most use for people at the fringes of financial 'society', most people on MFW are already well past finding them useful.

Cue the list of people with exceptions to my theory... ;)

You are totally right, I'm not thinking of it was a money making thing but a social good. I hate the payday lenders and their morals and thank goodness I've never been in the position to need one but maybe I'm wrong but a credit union gives another option to those who might otherwise go to a payday lender with their huge % rates.

All my working life I've been lucky enough to be a reasonably high earner and only have a mortgage to pay off as I spent my 20's and 30's enjoying myself to much! I feel very fortunate and do like to do what I can to give a little back. I was thinking of savings in the credit union in this way, same as I do funding circle (although that's doing well so far!)

Is FC P2P for businesses? I never really thought of that as a social good before, but I suppose it is :)

It's like P2P for individuals, you always hear people rattling on about how it's great for society, cuts out the financial institutions bla-deh-blah, but basically it's an agreement between people fortunate enough to have spare capital and unfortunate enough to need OPM ;)

I would be willing to bet that very few people *borrow* using Z0pa etc. if they can get a better rate from the bank!

True all round, I run a small business and we've done everything without needing to borrow but some business do and in this day and age few banks lend to small business. Business loans have totally dried up in the last few years.

I'm not sure on p2p for individuals, but I expect in real life some people need this occasionally and I believed that the credit unions do a good job of this. Tbh you are putting me off and I'm now thinking this isn't a good idea. Maybe I will stick to funding circle as I know from experience that's a good thing to do and I get some good returns so far as I've no defaults (yet!)

Last day of our holidays today. Had free entry to the races at fakenham so spent the afternoon there. Spent less than £30 between us all day including food, drinks and bets and won a membership for 2 in the raffle for over £200 which we might well sell on eBay as I can't see us using it.

Made a loaf this morning which was yummy and some gluten free scones which was a trial for a blog recipie post. They were super yummy!

Drafted a couple of blog posts and finished one of my first gardening ones. I'm getting loads of readers each day so people must be liking it.

Just realised that with promotion back to the premier league I won't be getting any further free tickets from skybet as its sponsored by Barclays. We managed to get into 3 or 4 games free this season curtesy of skybet. Must enter every Aviva competition and see if Barclays give away any free tix too.

Next week will need to pull in belts but had a great school holidays ;-)
