This advice is too late for OP but for anyone else reading this thread ...

Last time I bought a new car, I shopped around online for the best quote, which was about £2K off the list price. I then went to my local dealer and asked if they wanted to match it. They had to make a phone call, and made a comment along the lines of "its crazy to be selling it at this price", but they price matched.

I'm in the same boat, new car expected around February, but it's 360 miles each way. Probably going to take a day off work to collect and make a nice break of it.
  • £200 is nothing when you compare it to the depreciation..

I wouldn't send one of my 7.5s 300 miles for £200.00, so yes, to me that sounds more than reasonable.

Hello - have purchased a new car and got a great deal, however I had to go far afield to get the deal. The dealer is 300 odd miles from me, they can deliver the car by driving it FOC, or charge £200 to flatbed deliver it.

I don't fancy someone I don't know driving my new car 300 odd miles, is £200 good deal? Was considering collecting by train, ticket is cheap at £60, but add return fuel and my time then it's knocking in £200. Any suggestions welcome :)

The last 2 cars I've had I had to travel out of the county to pick them up, the 1st one had 8 miles on the clock, this one 12 miles, I wouldn't want the car to be driven that distance for delivery, I doubt they would thrash it an stuff as the novelty of doing so would wear off. Just make a day out of it and it's a nice running in for the car too.

All I can say is you must have massively overpaid if a dealer will do this for free.

Even if we assume you paid for a full tank of fuel which will be used in delivering the car, 300 miles is going to probably take at least 5 hours of anyones time, then they have the return jouney to make involving similar time, or more, plus cost.

Probably going to set the dealer back a ton at least.

    I know what you mean.

Brand new cars typically lose over a G as soon as they leave the forecourt.

No quality control checks carried out on you car then, presumably ;)

My understanding is that most big manufacturers will allow up to 1000 miles on a brand new car.
(Any more than that and the unscrupulous ones will swap the speedo for a new one ;) Maybe that's what they did with your 2?)

    Thanks for the feedback guys...

When I said it would be knocking on £200 for me to collect I didn't mean £200! Train is actually £68 single and fuel back would probably be around £50-£60. So around £130. But then it's going to be 5 hours each way for me, plus a day's holiday from work, and for the sake of £70 I may as well get it trailered - Think I answered my own question :)

I was mainly wondering if £200 was good or if I'd have to shop around or for other inspiration, £200 seems good actually as I've ben quoted £1 per mile from some local companies.

I presume the £200 takes into account they'd be delivering anyway, and the extra is for the truck rental and extra fuel to run it over the car.

I'd have thought so, but another member deals with lorries on a daily basis, as do I.

You're looking well over that for one of my 3.5t (although not in transporter spec), so as Bugs said, well over that for 5/7.5t.

I have a good idea of what the quote would be for both, but won't publicly disclose this, sorry.
