Car delivery cost
Hello - have purchased a new car and got a great deal, however I had to go far afield to get the deal. The dealer is 300 odd miles from me, they can deliver the car by driving it FOC, or charge £200 to flatbed deliver it.
I don't fancy someone I don't know driving my new car 300 odd miles, is £200 good deal? Was considering collecting by train, ticket is cheap at £60, but add return fuel and my time then it's knocking in £200. Any suggestions welcome

Oh dear. Do you know how many people have probably driven your new car already?
Was it built in the UK? If not you dont want to watch the videos on them driving them off the transport ships.
How do you think it got from the assembly line to the storage yard. Then from the yard onto trailers or even driven to the dealership.
They used to disconnect the speedo's. Now its a simple job of resetting the mileage during the PDI. Although im sure no dealer would do that would they?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
There are some of the last Vauxhall Cavaliers that hit the redline on the revcounter and speedo many times.
Poor first owners thought ooh a lovely fresh new car with only 3 miles on the clock. Odd that it was driven up from another dealer or storage, many miles away during the night.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

Lol, you just answered your own question!
You say it's going to cost you £200 for your time and expense to collect the car yourself, so may as well pay the £200 to have it delivered for you.
Then again you won't know how they'll treat your car when they put it on the flatbed? (As well as the other parts of the production process beforehand)
My car was driven down from Milton Keynes, and but that wasn't as bad - 66 miles. It didn't bother me, as it's leased anyway, so really can't call it mine - have to hand it back.0 -
£140 for 300 miles?!
Dare I ask what you've bought? My diesel execmobile (42-23mpg) would use less than £40 on this run, so you're looking about 12mpg (!)💙💛 💔0 -

...and what is around eight hours of your time there and back worth?0 -

Far from the image of being tenderly massaged as they passed from transporter to transporter!0 -
PS. I would go to collect - mostly because you can have a good look around the car and make sure you're happy with its condition before you sign all the final paperwork.0

Modern cars tend to have "transport mode" in the ECU, which restricts revs and throttle opening whilst they're being delivered, until disengaged as part of the PDI - so far less of an issue.
The guy delivering the car relies on having a clean licence for his job. He delivers all sorts of cars, from the mundane to the exotic, day-in-day-out. What incentive does he have to drive your particular new car like a teenager in McDogbits car park?0 -
Get them to deliver FOC. Nothing like someone else doing the shakedown drive for you and no hanging about for recovery if it is, one of the tiny minority, of new cars that are faulty from new.0
