we are stealing our youngs future prosperity and condemning them to a life of renting and poverty in old age.

    Now, that's a real problem.

Not really the fact that some people may rent most of their lives, but rather that many see their house, rightly or wrongly as their retirement pot.

In fact, it seems that it even goes the other way round in that, more and more, the system assumes and expects that people are or will be able to release a large amount of equity from their house in order to fund old age care.

    It's a vicious circle.

The housing market is so messed up most people do not realise. This thread is arguing one aspect to death without taking everything into consideration:

    1) house prices and house value to local wages vary widly across the country
    2) many areas have very high house prices compared to the youngsters wage and many have no chance to buy their home for the foreseeable future
    3) social housing has been in decline for a while and still dropping
    4) we haven't been building enough houses to accommodate the rising population and the changing demographic
    5) privately rented properties are on the increase, and being actively encouraged by government policy
    6) house price inflation is being encouraged by government policy
    7) investment in residential property by non UK people and companies has been happening in our high demand low supply housing market. If we don't have enough homes why are we allowing non UK residents to purchase them?
    8) there is no sign of the housing market correcting itself for the foreseeable future

I'm sure there are more problems!

If the current situation persists with young people not able to purchase their home, we are stealing our youngs future prosperity and condemning them to a life of renting and poverty in old age.

-we need to build more houses
-we need to build more house and it isn't important whether the funding is English or foreign
-we need to further reform the planning rules to allow more houses to be built more quickly and without lots of government determined costs.
-we need to ensure there is funding for more properties
-we need to consider the needs of both owner occupiers and people who rent

to evaluate these views your don't need to know
-whether I am black or white or something in between
-whether I am male or female or something in between
-whether I am religious or non-religious
-if religious whether I am Christian or Muslim or Jewish or ........
-whether I am gay or straight or bi
    -what my politics are
    -whether I'm racist or not
    -whether I'm young or old
    -whether I cycle or not
-whether I'm English or foreign born

You may admire the concept of Lysenko and Aryan science but most of us evaluate ideas on their own merit and not based solely on the whether we like the source of their origin.

Mr Clapton may I remind you that you initiated the insults, which I did not lower myself to reply in such a negative way.

If you wish people to accept your insults and take them in the chin, you must first establish your authority and respect from the majority around you.

Apart from being completely incorrect about me, I think you might find inferring somebody is fascist or racist in a public forum is slander and well outside the code of conduct of this forum. Your conduct does not command respect or authority.

It is a shame because you do have good things to say, but you are undermining yourself.
    Peace.

Yes and therein is a very likely reason for the governments policies to encourage house price inflation. It is a way to postpone the pension crisis and keep the ones that bother to vote ( I.e. The older generations) comfortably over the living wage.
    Peace.

    Dear Clapton
Anyone can throw insults and accuse poeple of knowing nothing. Please keep up the abusive behaviour so I can get you kicked off the forum.

Insecure fascist and communist apologists would truly be proud to write this.

Libertarian and free thinkers welcome all points of view.

    By the way
did you ever come to a conclusion whether you would prefer Battersea Power station site stay derelict of another 30 years rather than 'foreign' money develop it for the benefit of all?

do you have any evidence for this or any estimates of how many people see their houses as their retirement pot: in my own group of friends/acquaintance they are few.

The source of ideas i.e. You and your comments here on this forum, should be subject to the same scrutiny with which you yourself apply to others. Do you not agree?

Many times you have questioned the source of data and publications.... as we all should.... so why should we not question you, especially when you insult people publicly.

If you are in fact a buy to letter, commenting on the housing market, your views could be deemed to not be impartial, even though they may be well informed.

I never believe something just because the source is supposed to be trusted... I.e. Government statements, the BBC etc
    Peace.

Pssssst ...... Clappers (in quiet voice)... The Cold War is over.... Your insult references are out dated.... the common enemy of the western world is now supposed to be extreme Islamism ....

I do welcome all view points, just because I might not agree with you doesn't make me an enemy. Try to not push things to the extreme all the time.

Peace to one and all :-)
    Peace.

You are truly a Lysenko apologist.

To evaluate an idea, a rational person doesn't need to know their source. To most people it doesn't matter e.g. whether the idea comes from Aryan or Jewish science. You may need to know but that's you and not most rational non prejudiced people.

    Data is different.
  • And your question about The old and very beautiful power station..... some things that are old can be beautiful inside and out ;-)

Again you are ignoring my point... While we have a home shortage.... We need to reduce the demand by reducing competition from foreign investment.... this will help keep the inflation of house prices down
    Peace.
