  • Melted mars bars mixed with rice krispies comes to mind - I think that's how we used to make them. The chocolate seemed to disappear. OMG I've just had a flashback - anyone remember mars bar sandwiches on brown bread!!!!! mmmmmmmmmm

Sorry, didnt have them when we were small, but my mum used to make toffee/fudge with tins of evaporated milk or maybe condensed milk.......maybe the recipe for toffee krispies is made using that?

If your going to melt mars bars you need to put a dollop of butter/marg in otherwise it goes all dry.

I always used to make them with equal weights of butter/marg, marshmallows (sorry but they are bought ones) and 10p highland toffee bars! Just put it all in the pot and melt slowly, stirring regularly so it doesn't stick and burn. Then add in as much rice crispies as it will take - just keep adding and stirring them in until you don't think the mixture will cover any more with a decent coating of the toffee mixture. Spoon into a baking tin, leave to cool then slice up or just spoon into bun cases.

Probably really bad for you but taste sooo good!

I remember these!! At school fairs there was always the chocolate krispie cakes, and these in big rectangle shapes! THey were yum.

Never made them myself, but I will have a hunt at home to see if I have a recipe for them. I'd forgotten about these, I want to eat some now!
  • Ooh we used to make these for Bonfire Night parties years ago (and I mean YEARS, it was a recipe we got from Blue Peter, at least 30 years ago).

    The recipe we used is:

    4oz margarine
    4oz marshmallows
4oz cream toffees (can you still get these? we used to sit and unwrap the gold wrappers for ages)
    4oz Rice Krispies

I think 100g-110g of each should be around the right up-to-date weight.

Melt the marge, marshmallows and toffees together in a big pan and then stir in the Rice Krispies off the heat. I think we, being greedy little girls, used to add many more RKs than the original recipe called for, to make even more crispies.

Cool if you can leave it that long, and cut into squares. Yummy! We used to call it 'crunch', I think we got that from BP too.

Thanks for the trip down memory lane!

Hi, I have a recipe for Toffee Crispies from when I was a child. I think it came from Nestle Condensed Milk recipes :

    Toffee Crispies

    90g butter
    155g sugar
    1 tin (397g) condensed milk
    15ml (1 tbsp) golden syrup
    Vanilla essence
    60g rice crispies

Melt the butter and sugar together
Add the condensed milk and syrup and bring slowly to the boil
Simmer for 20 minutes, stirring continuously
When mixture reaches the soft-ball stage, remove from the heat and add the vanilla and rice crispies
Pour into a greased tin (about 180mm square)
    Cool and cut into squares
Save the earth, it's the only planet with chocolate! :)
