Only other option I can think of is to try a different store if possible or go back to same store and explain to manager.

You could always ring head office and ask their opinion...

For your information the shops can only trace back 3 months of transactions on the in-store computers and that will only give them a shop reference if you like i.e. it will just say sold, moved, refunded etc. The member of staff can't extract any other information than when it was sold (by time and date).

Everything depends on the member of staff you deal with and the manager, some will be quite liberal with the policy others wont.

    Not true.

That still doesn't constitute a proof of purchase. Proof of purchase being cheque book stub, receipt, credit card statement, witness etc as I'm sure you know.

You quite often see products with Argos catalogue numbers on in other stores for example I've seen them in Debenhams and B&Q to name a couple.

Edit: littlegerts does say they have 'original paperwork' if thats one of the above I don't see why they won't take the product back.
  • if you know what month you purchased it in and you say you bought more items at the same time then they should try to chase it for you... can you remember the other items you got at the same time as if you can they will have all the old catalogues under the CS desk and will get the numbers and when they find dates for the dvd player they can check it against the other purchases you said you made - you can try another store but they wont be able to trace the date so might also refuse point blank to do anything - your best bet is to go back into the store you bought it in with more info to help them find it.... can you go back through old bank statements to see roughly when you withdrew the cash to pay with?? maybe another idea ??

    Thats great news.

I have done this many of times. It really depends on who is on the returns desk at the time. Some people are more relaxed than others in accepting returns.

  • I've had a similar issue with a CD player. It's developed an intermittent fault, whereby it just stops playing CDs and displays "Error", but of course it won't do it to order, and I was told that unless it did it in front of the customer services guy, he physically couldn't process it for refund/replacement whatever... I've had it 6 months, but it's not good enough... Grrrr! I guess I'll have to try another Argos, then try the head office route...
  • I've got a problem with a Cookworks microwave oven which was bought last December. I've still got the original box but no receipt as it was a present from my Brother. The handbook says it's got 12 months guarantee do you think they will still honour it?
