Ignore those saying report it to the insurer.
It may affect your premiums with some insurers even if you dont then claim.0 -

And what do you think will happen when the bus co pay out? They have to keep a record of claims and this data is also shared with insurers.
So if you keep schtum, your insurer will find out down the line and either cancel your cover, or increase the premium and stick on some admin fees for good measure.0 -
If I want to take the letter of the T&Cs my insurance policy says I have to insure them if I am involved in an accident in the case above it is the car, unattended, that was in the accident. I don't think I'd declare it.0

Good luck with that interpretation0

One of my daughter's wing mirrors got ripped off by a bus , she went down the local salvage yard and got one and had it fitted for a tenner....lot less hassle for such an simple repair.0

I wouldn't be be reporting damaged door mirrors to my insurancem especially on an older car. I had 4 mirrors broken in the space of 2 years on my last car. They they were simply repaced from ebay for less than £20 a time.0

Some of the scaremongering in this thread (and any of the others where the usual suspects fall over themselves to say you must inform your insurance company, the police, MI5 and Interpol when a bird craps on your car) is absolutely ridiculous.
The bus company will sort it. They won't share their records of a sub £100 non fault claim from a third party. Never in a million years would your insurance get cancelled.0 -
Watch it Jonesy, GCHQ are onto you0

Personally, I would only inform my insurance company after I've had some resolution from direct contact with the bus company.
Once they've paid you (out of court) for the damage or denied liability, then I'd inform my insurer with more detailed information with a heading "FOR INFORMATION ONLY" in large print.
Yeah, like that is going to make a difference.
Just because you tell them to write that, doesn't mean the system will allow it.0
