29p for 2 litres of cheap thin bleach at a local supermarket.

Thanks for all the replies everyone! im loving the cheap bleach idea not loving the chicken wire idea...

Ill give the bleach idea a go, if things do not work out looks like i will rip the decking out - Freaked me out reading that decking is a haven for rats eeek!

Chicken wire is used by the National Trust etc on wooden walkways/bridges at their sites that get slippery. It does work. Doesn't look the best though!

Knew I was in good company! :D

It's common at many of the outdoor sites we visit, probably because 'elfin safety' has a higher priority than looks, especially where insurance premiums are involved.

Should imagine it works very well, my concern is , if you did fall/ slipped the damage could be greater.

How big is the decked area? Could you lay something like this down (at least as a pathway if you cross it to get the lawn etc) if your little one will be playing out there? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/24-SQ-FT-Outdoor-Interlocking-EVA-Foam-Mats-Tiles-Mat-Camping-Garden-/231205467291?pt=UK_Sporting_Goods_Exercise_Fitness_Fitness_Accessories_ET&hash=item35d4eb749b (I haven't compared prices anywhere so that may not be the cheapest). You could use something like long cable ties to secure it.

'We' usually power wash ours in the spring every year and then reseal with a roller and a clear decking sealer.
We don't know why but last couple weeks the decking has become very green and slippery - so it has an extra power wash at weekend.
I love our decking - find it a lot more usable in wet weather than the slabs, we used scaffolding planks so are too precious about it & this does give a roughness about it.
