The drive belt is a "consumable" part and they do need replacing occasionally, but they should last longer than 4 months*

*Early failure is normally due to the brush being set too low causing the belt to slip, is the brush hight adjustable?

A "repair" would usually be to simply fit a new belt, you'll have to see what Argos say.
  • Thanks for replying. Yes the brush height is adjustable.
There doesn't seem to be any warning in the instructions about this happening if the brush is too low, which would have been nice to know.
Having checked the Hoover website, they suggest replacing the belt every 6 months!
With hind sight probably would not have bought this machine!
