I am just wondering whether today's air pollution threat in the South of England will be noticeable and whether I should delay my outdoor gardening plans In any case, I won't be spending any money. Makes you realise how bad it must be living in some of the more polluted countries like China, and how bad it used to be here years ago before smokeless fuel, anti pollution legislation with the good old English Smog! . I can remember as a child coming home from school in the early fifties when the fog was yellow and the handkerchief I was holding over my nose was filthy with pollution. And everybody used to spit it out on the pavements ! Ugh !0

After feeling a little wobbly on ship recently, I've decided to make renewed efforts to get my sea legs. After getting my treat the other day I assigned specific things to a few other tasks, so that I don't just buy something for the sake of it when I finish a task.
I also did some decluttering the other day, getting rid of a few things I no longer have any need for. I've been off work this week, but I'm due back tomorrow, which I'm not looking forward to, as it's the busiest day of the year.0 -

I'm in the south of England too, and it's sunny and windless, so pollution won't get blown away. I shall be biking (gently!) to my allotment and gardening (seed sowing, nothing too heavy planned today) in a leisurely manner. I'm blessed that I don't suffer with breathing difficulties but it might be a day to avoid heavier exertions such as jogging or charging around like a mad thing.
The city centre where I live is under constant air quality monitoring (traffic fumes) and is reckoned to load the lungs with the equivalent of a 10-a-day habit. Not a pleasing thought to this lifelong non-smoker, but you can't avoid air pollution entirely, even in rural areas.
Perhaps, for those who have choices and are public-spiritied, it would be a good day not to use the car?Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Good morning shipmates,I hope we are all enjoying this weather.
My garden is looking lovely.I have pots on the dividing wall and the tulips are nearly there and my favourite, snakeshead fritillary looking stunning.Hard to believe they are a native plant, they look so exotic.
Off to my son's in Oxford when Mr V finishes work at 10.In true NBI style I am taking pudding (key lime pie trifle) and have made American funeral sandwiches, creme egg brownies and mini egg rice crispie cakes for a picnic on Saturday. We have drawn £50 cash but I don't expect to spend much of it,drinks maybe and a punt if the weather is fine.
I agree, once the budget is under control it is self controlling.I have controlled the desire for "stuff" for so long I have trouble spending at times.A fine line to walk for me between debt free and being a bit obsessive about not spending money. That's why I plan treats for us as I could so easily drag us into the dour lifestyle I could live.
Crumbs a bit heavy for this time of day.Have a lovely weekend all.Vx:0 -
Good morning everyone.
Been lovely and sunny here in the Northeast for a few days - I do hope it lasts a bit longer. Have finally managed to get caught up with all the laundry tasks I've accumulated - heavy curtains and bedcovers etc - as no tumble dryer means I have to wait for sunny days to take advantage of my small veranda/balcony.:)
All the washing hanging out has meant no work on gardening in pots as not enough space to cope with both.
Purse been opened this week - very necessary haircut so I no longer look like a bush - and a frivolous £3.49 in charity shop for a bright and breezy holiday bag - multi-coloured with sequinned elephants - very elegant - NOT! :rotfl:
Have a good day everyone!Use it up, Wear it out, Make it do, Do without.0 -
Recently I have struggled to be frugal. Have to try and cut down spending even more. Have managed to resist some purchases though. Not much temp work at the moment. Am doing some training through voluntary work which might lead to casual work, fingers crossed that I pass the assessments. Still decluttering and gave 2 carrier bags of things to the cs. Struggling to fill up another bag by letting things go. Did go the c0-0p to get a treat 2 bags of 5 doughnuts for £1. Saw one bag with just 3 doughnuts with the price tag saying there were 5, took it to who I thought was a sales assistant, turned out to be the branch manager, mentioned it to him was going to speak to the bakery and said that he was going to give them to me for free. Mentioned it the cashier when I brought them.Frugal Living Challenge 2025 Mortgage free as of 1st August 20130

I had to google funeral sandwiches then! Sound quite nice - even if the name is a bit strange.0 -
Well I know I am not supposed to be buying it but....... while I was in A!di today they had just put out 30% off stickers on fridge stuff. So I bought leg lamb, mince, meatballs, beef cubes, 4x pieces fish & 3x readymeals & pizza (when student son wants quick meal) I have topped up the freezer. I nearly skipped out of the shop! Small things make me happy. We WILL stick to a budget for all of 2015 without loosing momentum. :j0

Good morning everyone, well best laids plans etc all came to nowt yesterday.I went to pick up the rest of my prescription and this shop really annoys me
I had taken it in on Tuesday, I have around 6 things regularly on there, and they are not outlandish things, two of them are shower and bath stuff as I have very odd skin when it comes to soaps etc and have to use Dermol which I get on prescription.A couple of other bits that I have been getting for aound 8 years every month Yet every month it take almost a week to get stuff in.
I was told on Tuesday that if I came back on Wednesday it would be all in and ready I went in yesterday (Friday) and the 'script hadn't even been touched, and when she did it I was told they still hadn't ordered the stuff in I needed GGRRRR.
I'm normally a peaceable sort of person but this was just poor service and I told them in no uncertain terms .
Once I get the rest of the 'script (hopefully today,) I won't use this shop again I will go back to an independant shop (My shop was a chain, Lloyds )
I was born overthe top of a chemist shop, as that was my late Dads trade, and know exactly how chemists shops work having been around them for most of my growing up years. So instead of having a lazy day pottering I now have to trail over to the shop to get the rest of my prescription.
Apart from that I didn't manage to buy the small table, it had been snapped up so at least I didn't spend any cash on it
DGS Ben and his girlfriend Katie arrived at DDs house last night en route for Norwich and Uni so I stayed to dinner which was lovely and we all had a good natter about what they have to do this term. Then Ben asked if I could do a little bit of sewing on his favourite jeans !!! Basically there was a darned great hole in the bottom of them and I had to patch it up for him I removed a pocket from one of the other boys jeans and used it as a patch.Seemed to work ,but how long it will last I don't know I have promised him next time he comes hom at end of term I will buy him some new ones .
His jeans are very battered looking and, I have started to call him the little tramp, bless him he hates new clothes and would rather wear stuff that's hanging off himself at times. He says it makes a 'statement ' the only statement I think it makes is he looks like a tramp (give him his due, a very clean tramp as he doen't like to get dirty:):)He likes the 'patched and worn out look.:):)
Very cloudy here in Kent I'm hoping the mist will burn off.I have the washing machine burbling away downstairs at the moment so fingers crossed I will have a line-full out by 10.00am
Right time to sort out the menus for the rest of the month Tomorrow I am off to W8rose as I have a £6.00 voucher off a £30.00 shop so I am hoping to get all my bits and pieces for the rest of the month.Just worked out that I need only 10 dinners for the rest of the month as I will be out for other evenings
Have a good day everyone what ever you are doing

Hello everyone!
I've found that one of the benefits of de cluttering and clearing out cupboards is finding the stockpiled stuff you'd forgotten you had!
I now have several bottles of fairy liquid, 10 packets of various cleaning wipes, 3 bottles of bleach/toilet cleaner and more fabric softener than I could use in a year!
I don't even know where the fabric softener came from, I use 2-in-1 washing liquid so don't buy the stuff!“I want to be a glow worm, A glow worm's never glum'Coz how can you be grumpy, when the sun shines out your bum?" ~ Dr A.
