I would not install free antivirus protection that did not offer me telephone and e-mail support. With AVG FREE although it is free the only help you get if you have a problem is via a Self Help Forum. Personally I could not imagine anything more frustrating or worrying if I have a threat to my documents/personal data on my computer!! Especially if my computer had just been infected with a virus!! I would want to get straight on the phone and get it all sorted by an internet security expert.

Also AVG FREE is only licenced for single computers whereas Bullgu*rd and N*rton for example plus others although you have to pay for these they are licenced for multiple computers.

Another thing that would worry me is the fact that AVG FREE get very infrequent updates via a low priority server. This would bother me as updates to your computers security is very important and I would prefer my security to be as up to date as possible with every security measure that is currently available.

My previous post on internet security and the above is only my opinion and the opinion of a computer programmer that I spoke to regarding internet security in general.

Whatever internet security we decide is best for ourselves I hope we all stay safe on-line!!

Having had avg free and norton/bullgard, avg does actually tell you if you have a trojan or virus, it will quaratine suspect files, its very user friendly.

I didnt choose it particularly because it was free, I chose it because I had tried both bullguard and norton and had problems with both of them.

There is actually an avg that you can pay for that has more features but Ive never needed to use it.

The problem with bullguard as i recall it was that you had to click to either allow or not allow certain files, I clicked on allow, it was a trojan and I didnt know.

I cant recall why I didnt get on with norton, it just drove me nuts.

Each to their own, we all have different preferences.

Anyway good to talk about internet security as just realised i needed to download avg onto my tablet. A quick squint online revealed that its a good idea to protect tablets and ipads too, iphones are pretty secure, for some reason i thought my tablet had anti virus on it, but seems not, anyway it has now.

:eek::eek::eek: I hadn't given any thought to anti virus for my iPad, just assumed it had it.
What di you download and did you get it via apps?

I was reading through the posts on here yesterday and it's made me realise that I am still spending far too much on groceries. I'm going to do a breakdown of the different amounts I have in each category. I was trying to work it out lying in bed so I thought I would get up and work it out properly. I spend £2 a day on each of my dogs for their food. That was one expense I could work out from bed.:D

I used to have N0rton and found it a PITA. At times it was using 100% of the CPU, at other times not far short of that. I bought it terrestrially and renewed it online and one year I did that at the price they quoted and it was fine, the next year I trusted them and did it, and 3 weeks later discovered I could have bought it from scratch, in a shop here, for about £20 less. I was livid.

Fool me one, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me. Don't do biz with them any more and had my computer wizard, an IT pro, strip N0rton out of all parts of the registry (think that's the term). I was watching him do it and it took ages to get rid of their blasted stuff.

I don't do online banking at all and only pay utility bills online, and have bought about 2 things online in my whole life.

You can buy norton and other packages from ebay much cheaper than buying direct.

Im also sure theres a website where students can buy all sorts of pc add ons for a fraction of the price.

That brings back memories for me GreyQueen as I had to do the same with N0rton. I actually installed it thinking it was the bees knees of security only to find that it slowed my computer down so much. I tried to uninstall it, but could I get it all off, NO. I tried and tried and tried!! In the end I had to get my computer wizard to get it all off!! The trouble with N0rton is that it just takes up too much space on home computers hence the reason for slowing mine right down. Would never use it again!!


Chilly here today. But, hens had a warm night in their hotel. Now eating their brekkie and getting geared up for a full days foraging (wrecking my garden I call it). Ducks splashing about in the pond now it is no longer frozen. So all my feathered friends are happy. If they are happy I am too!!


Little Langley is mixing in well with the others. She is no longer perching on anything she can find to perch on and spends time on the ground a lot more now foraging with the others. So has settled in nicely I am pleased to say!!


Our rescue Cockerel was introduced to the others last year on his own and they gave him hell for a week or so. He was scarred of them all. But, you should see him now!! He is so beautiful and 3 times the size of the hens. He is definitely the boss of the hens now he has found his feet. Bless him!!!
