has anyone got any ideas for using up bits and pieces of leftover liqueurs in cooking? I just took everything out of the drinks cupboard and am determined just to keep the few drinks that we use. I have amaretto, tia maria, pear vodka and so on. I am going to start today by putting a bit of vermouth in the scrag lamb casserole. If I don`t tackle that cupboard then they will all just sit there for another year and then another one after that
Would they freeze in ice cube trays and could they then be added to casseroles and other dishes which would benefit from their richness? It's a good idea to sort them out as a bottle takes up the same amount of space with a dribble in it as it does when full.
Back when I was young and daft, I'd've had mates around and made some truly vile 'cocktails' and had a stinking hangover for 2 days, but I think we're both well past such behaviour..........:rotfl:Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Can't claim it as an original thought, got it out of a book on thrift/ blog somewhere.

I have a Harry version of the henry hoover, he.comes.with a different head for picking up pet hair.
Spirits won't freeze, some of the weaker stuff might depending on alcohol content but vodka won't0 -
5 minutes later and I have got the rum and the vodka into ice cube bags via a funnel and they are freezing right now
This is one heck of a good idea :j as I still have the spirits for fruit cake etc
csh, I am about to see for myself, even mushy would be good and better than the volume occupied by the bottles0 -
Hi all,
I think I need to join you all if that is ok?
I am currently attempting to declutter my entire house, use up stuff I already have and minimise buying more rubbish that will just clutter up the place! My husband and I combined two houses when we got married, so there are a lot of doubles of things, and OH won't part with anything...and in general my stuff is of better quality, so I'm a bit stuck with these things.
However, we have our first baby on the way, due in June, so this has been a great reason to clear one of the bedrooms. Also, I'll be on maternity leave for around 10 months, so income will drop, and although we have savings to cover our bills etc, I'd still like a bit of spending money, so anything I can save between now and June will be most welcome!
I look forward to getting lots of hints and tips from you all, here's to a frugal 2015 (even if I'm a month late in joining) xxxAll you need is less0 -
having just done the google search, the alcohols won`t freeze so I am going to transfer them to small lock n locks that I washed yesterday. Just transferred the rum, was a full ice cube bag and as soon as I pricked the bottom, it started to flow out like a male having a pee. lol my kitchen now smells like a brewery0

Kittie - liqueurs are good for chocolate making, so maybe keep them for next Christmas? Or make chocolates as gifts.0

Oh but I'm fed up:
January grocery spends - very good, under budget and using everything up;
January utilities - have reduced mobile phone by £24 a month; but.....
Flamin' car! It has cost us over £600 to keep on the road this month (excluding petrol) :eek:. Most recently, yesterday morning we were all set to hit the road at 7.30 to get down to my mum's. Turned the key and nothing! 6 hours and a new starter motor later we were on our way, but it really isn't helping our budget. We hardly use the car apart from trips to my mum's when we really need it. Time to investigate a replacement car me thinks.0
