This thread certainly keeps you on the straight and narrow! I had two hours to pass in Our nearest city this afternoon, so decided to have a look round home bargains and aldi, as we don't gave any of the discounts stores here, total spend was £17.10 and that was for everything we needed, nothing bought that we don't need. I then popped into dunelm as i am now only doing all the washing on a Saturday we could've done with a couple extra bath towels, but in going into the shop only half the lights were on, at two o'clock on a Saturday afternoon, you could hardly see anything, let alone have a right look, so I chose the ones I liked, put them in the trolley wandered about a bit more then thought, nah - this lighting is giving me a headache, turned round, put them back and walked out! So saving £30 for a wee bit longer, plus I kept saying to myself do we really need them, do I really like them, and couldn't honestly say yes!Every days a School day!0

Not sure if any of you watched the BBC1 programme with Greg Wallace about people who over spend on food, it's a three part series but the first one this week was eye opening.
The one thing that I kind of flit in and out of is making meal plans. I am more into it now, especially after the house move as I have more chance to sit down and get things done. I find the meal planning side easier and less of a chance of food being wasted - not that we waste very much anyway, maybe the odd onion!
This couple were spending daft amounts on food for the four of them something in the region of around £250.00 per week  I mean flipping heck it was horrendous. They advised them to heavily take up the meal planner. So, I am going to try and stick heartily to this. It just makes sense. My stash cupboard for tins and long life stuff will still live on strong and well because that makes such financial long term savings.
I have never scrimped on the quality of meat and we have a really good couple of butchers here in Northumberland that I use. That was what came out of that programme as well, that using the butchers can be cheaper, but you always get better quality.
Shoes, boots, coats and handbags I absolutely don't need at all as I have plenty. Couple of pairs of boots may need to go to the cobblers but thats a maintenance planI suppose thats been a positive thing that came out of Marie Kondo, that it makes you really look and examine what you have. Jumpers and cardigans I am okay for as well.

All accounts done for January and very pleased that I came in with my food purse just under budget. It would have been more but a friend gave me an Aldee voucher which I used on Thursday so more or less got everything I need for several weeks in February.
Tomorrow is the new month,so fingers crossed my £60.00 food budget purse won't have many purchases out of it .
Cancelled the idea of the Country Park this afternoon as it started to snow ,so I stayed indoors and did some knitting instead.
We have all done so well this month and seem to have all cut back a lot of unnecessary shopping. With the weather turning a bit grotty (it did start to snow a bit this afternoon ) that will keep me out of the shops as I stay indoors if its icy ,no point in falling over and hurting myself .
My stick needs a new cloth wrist-atachment thing so I don't
lose it when I'm out ,not too sure where I would buy one from as I have had this stick for about 5 years now (with several new tips replaced on the end . I'll have to have a thunk and see if I can work out how to make a new one its only cord really with a slider to stop it coming off my wrist
have a good evening all and keep warm0 -
Number 96 Investigate the Tesco Boost website as they have added some new benefits
I am still not up to much today so this is as far as I have got but I am determined to keep finding one more thing. If you all think it is not worth me posting, just let me know but this way I feel more accountable if you know what I mean.
Hope all are safe in harbour

Hi, Busymum, my entire extended family are in the Cult of Henry (the Numatic vacs with the smiley face) and I would recommend them wholeheartedly.
They're the ones you'll see used commercially; they're hard-wearing, there is very little to go wrong, you can wash the filter in the sink and they have the cheekiest grins.
I tend to think of cheap vacs as being a false economy. Or cheap anythings really. If you take the starting price, deduct the 20% that went to the VAT man, hazard a guess at the shop's mark-up over wholesale, and think that the manufacturer made a profit and that the item was also shipped/ trucked, and it tells you that some of this stuff cost about a fiver or a tenner to make and must be garbage. You don't get a good motor for that price, and that's what it seems that your vac has burned out.
Good luck with your next vac.
Oooooo, I like the sound of a Henry. I will look into that thanks:DBusymumofthreeplusdog......

2015 NSD total - 50 -
Hello shipmates
I have spent some money today on new slippers (holes in the old ones) and a new breadboard as I decided the old one was just too old to use any more. Oh, and I had my brows done. Apart from that, I haven't spent much, had money in my account when I got paid even though it was January, things are looking good :T
Thanks to everyone who posts and keeps me motivated!

JackieO, I have just had a new strap put on my walking stick. You can buy them at a shoe repair place (I call them Cobblers but that might just be my regional accent showing). They are not expensive and my friendly cobbler fitted both it and new tip for free.
Have realised that out of 31 days in January I had 21 NSDs - probably because I had the lurgy and was confined indoors for a lot of the time. Hope February is as financially satisfactory.Use it up, Wear it out, Make it do, Do without.0 -

I've got Henrys partner, her name is Hetti and she is pink!! I believe you can get a George not sure if he is green or blue. Anyway, there are 4 I believe.
Anyone else know the name of the other one and the correct colour for George?
I like Hetti best as she is the prettiest one!!
Now you will be spoilt for choice!!
Seriously though they are really robust hoovers. A lot of builders use them so that must tell you something about how robust they are. Funny thing is I have never seen a builder with a pink Hetti yet!!
Good luck and I hope it lasts you for long while!!

I have been monitoring my discretionary expenditure and am pleased with the results. I spent £190 but that included DS's birthday present, a visit to the hairdresser, joining WW and bathroom scales.
My only real slips were two kindle books and an exercise DVD. On the plus side I haven't bought any clothes or toiletries.
I was feeling a bit fed up yesterday at work and was tempted to go shopping today but I resisted. There is nothing I need, and today's purchases are tomorrow's clutter.
I am trying to declutter but I am taking it slowly0 -
