NOT BUYING IT! 2015 - A consumer holiday

Had a NSD yesterday but got to go food shopping today, I have a gift card for it and plan to walk and only use a basket, I've got my list so hopefully will only buy what is on that0

Well it looks like a good start all round! I'm hoping today can count as a NSD even though I have effectively spend £50! My best friend has had a lot going on and I didn't just want to buy something nice for Christmas because at the moment she would be likely to think " I could have done something much more useful with that money". We chatted yesterday and she mentioned a cover for her iPad mini. That got me thinking. As a freebie in the summer when I updated my MacBook pro I got a £60 gift voucher for apple. I had almost forgotten about it but that conversation reminded me. I asked her to choose the one she wanted and send me the link. £50 case purchased and still £10 on the gift card! Am very pleased with myself, and delighted to get something useful for my best mate :T

Inspired by you all I went to local sewing shop to see if I could get a replacement button for my jeans as it had popped off. 25p later and jeans should have a long and productive life left!0

Mornin, thanks for advice on volunteering and gardening.
Curly hair and screaming babies!!!!!!!!!!!! I had two curly locks. For my daughter who had bottom length hair it was a case of being plaited for school and bed.It took an hour to comb through after washing, but sooo beautiful. Now she is almost 22 and has elbow length curls which she never brushes, just scrunches and it is her crowning glory.
CRYING.My first child screamed night and day for 10 months. He didn't sleep for more than 2 hours at a time.I took him to the doctor and his advice was to go back to work and let a childminder have the screaming. He also said it was a sign of high intelligence,so take comfort as this did prove to be the case.I found when he started to talk at 10 months (yes really) he improved dramatically. He improved more when he began to walk.My Mum used to have him overnight every Friday from about 3 months to give me a break. The people over the road had a similar age baby and the husband got up one night to find his son asleep in his cot,he had been woken by my screamer across the street :rotfl:
Food and illhealth.I think there is a definite connection (thank you Dr Vulpix).I do not eat the cheapest food nor the most expensive, I buy what we need.I make our food so i know whats in it.No processed food with the exception of chocolate.I am sure someone will tell me the evils contained in dairy milk but I live near a multinational sweet factory and consequently neither I nor the kids have ever had anything for a treat other than chocolate. Complete snobbery on my part I am sure.:o
Face book,I have an account 'cos the kids made me one,who are my friends? the kids.I only go on it to look at the for sale page and (whispers)The poultry page. How cool am I?
The paper whites I planted last autumn have flowered today.Small pleasures.
Up and atem now,big job with the Christmas decs.I have 3 trees up this year...cutting down! And i will pack them extra carefully as i hope we will be unpacking them in a new house next Christmas.
Excuse the typing I correct some typos but there are so many I cant be bothered after a while.I bought the secondhand Ipad off facebook and daughters are in the process of dragging me kicking and screaming to their tutorials.

Morning all slept quite well so feeling good and one of the pigeon club members has popped in and gave me a big box of Lindt chocolates
I love these chocolates so they will be a treat when I have been really good as they are free and too much Lindt is sickly so one every so often will be good Hubby already has his eye on them will have to find a hiding place sharpish
the pigeon lad said for me as I put up with so many people coming in and out of the house and the phone never stops ringing with DH being secretary I don't mind any of that to be honest it keeps hubby happy and if I get chocolates then all the better
I have to go to sainsbugs today as running very low on milk we go through about 28 pints a week and is a must in the house but I will pick up 6 x 4pts that will do us to next thurs and then only need to go shopping for top ups till we have run the food stocks down from cupboards and freezer
Right better go and get ready still in my jimjams and dog is looking fed up waiting and really needs her walk
Hope we all have a great day

Still living on leftovers here, the freezer is full, we have plenty of milk, evap, dried milk and uht cream as back up and I have a loaf prooving so another supermarkup free day.
I am hoping to last out until shopping day on Thursday.
We are however going to the nursery for essential aged manure for the garden.
I refuse to go out on New Year's day, I think it is awful that all the shop staff are forced to work on a bank holiday, I have worked in retail and there is a great deal of pressure from above for you to forgo your official holiday and what makes it worse is that the staff no longer get double time, they might get time and a half and rarely get a lieu day:mad::mad:Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

1st bit of decluttering for this week - have scooped out the defrosted bit of the chest freezer to put it up for sale. Chest freezers are popular on our local Fbook selling site so am hopeful it will fetch a decent price. Wish we didn't have to sell it but it won't fit where we are going and we don't actually need a big chest freezer, we bought it when we had a catering business.0

Morning all,
Everyone seems to be doing very well. It is lovely hearing your stories and what everyone is looking to achieve.
Lovely also hearing all about the babies on the way! I never had children as my health issues kicked in at 19 and I never had the physical or mental strength.
I cannot help with the supermarket question as I have not shopped in sainsburys for many, many years. My chosen shop is Waitrose, I did used to shop more at the co-op too. I do understand why people have concerns about the big supermarkets, but I always feel sorry for the staff who are probably getting by on not huge salaries and I don't wish them to lose out. Don't know if this makes sense!
Oh dear, after that long paragraph i have forgotten everything I read earlier!
On my 6th NSD and hubby is commenting on the bare fridge! There are tinned chana dals in the pantry that we can have for lunch. No more baked beans or eggs though. Just hope hubby does not stop by marks to buy provisions as he is wont to do.
My hubby would have said about mcd's too! Well done on sticking to your plans.
I know my hubby means well as he is worried about me overdoing it, but it is getting the balance between managing health and saving money, being less consumeristic. It will be interesting to see how this issue pans out over the coming year.
Need to do yet more decluttering. I am determined to travel light in the future.
Have a lovely day everyone.
Eta: i would like to shop at aldi and lidl too, as everyone speaks so highly of them. With my health issues though and not being a car driver I cannot manage to shop at these stores. I rely on home delivery.

Vulpix, thank you for sharing your experiences, it is hearing other peoples' stories that keep me sane, it can be very lonely when everyone else seems to have "perfect" babies that just gurgle happily on their playmats!
I have been to L!dl and the greengrocers and spent a grand total of £7.91 on essentials! I am so pleased! Our grocer had bags and bags of veg reduced to 30p for the whole bag, so I stocked up on those. I plan to batch cook later today, tiddlers permitting!
Keep on keeping on my lovelies (another mantra of mine) xxMFW

I have OCD too, I have to have a routine and make sure everything is very organised, lists that need to be checked off daily etc. I find the OCD bit doesn't bother me anymore as it has just become my personality.
I found it fascinating to watch the shows Hoarding Buried Alive as I didn't realise that was a form of OCD too.
Anyway for me decluttering and making my life simpler has been wonderful for me. I feel a relief living in such a minimalist home, even though it may seem sterile to other people, but who cares what they think.:D
I am going to wear my new necklace when I go out to the shops and put on nail varnish. I may only be going to buy some essential loo rolls but that doesn't mean I can't make a little effort.:rotfl: It looks like a sunny, bright day out there so it will be nice to have a walk.
It will be more of my homemade soup for lunch and my husband can have a can of tomato soup with a cheese toastie.
I am washing the bed covers so will be able to get into clean sheets tonight. I love that feeling.:) I realised I have two bottles of Febreze which I won't use as I got rid of all the carpets as it helped with what I think is an allergy to my dog's fur. I thought I could use a bit each time in the washing machine as fabric softener rather than throw it away?savingqueen wrote: »
I am finding the simpler the lifestyle, the calmer I am - this also helps the children too. Dehoarding/cluttering is an ongoing project for me and I can already notice the positive impact on my stress levels.
I feel the same way.:)HOUSE MOVE FUND £16,000/ £19,000
