Loving this thread, read an article on a newspaper website recently that said the trend for 2015 was for people to ditch technology and have a more simple life, as it was found that a simple life leads to a happy life. More people are ditching social media, I have closed a lot of my accounts must admit it has been hard not to have a quick look but i'm sticking to my guns.
Definitely on board for the not buying unless it is needed. Currently going through the house and decluttering which I absolutely love.
Recently it was my birthday so I asked my family to hang on till xmas and to combine both pressies and asked for National Trust membership and magazine subscriptions. I do enjoy reading a certain magazine and now for the next year this has been paid for, also I can have free days out on the National Trust as there are plenty of properties where I live. Have some money leftover for xmas so something similar.x:j Debtfree and and staying that way.:j3-6 month emergency fund, No.61 £140.000 -

Swift kick up the bum for myself today. Glorious walk in the cold with the family and Duck the Dog in his new coat.
Now we're home and snuggling up, the boys are watching family films and I'm on the comp.
I've found 5 recipes to try for my first week of No Supers'. Will be checking the cupboards for the dry ingredients, then write my shopping list and where I think I can get these things avoiding the SM's.
Lunches should be simple enough, but brekkie might pose a problem. Guess I'll need to get my butt organised and make some breakfast goodies too :TWealth is not measured by currency0 -

So plans for today have fallen by the wayside 5 children at home means I've just about loaded the dishwasher and cleaned the kitchen sides
. So sat here thinking, how did I go from a life I'm trying to get back into to one of what seems like greed. When I first set out on my own with 3 under 3s I simply did not have clutter everything was minimalistic, I went main shopping once a month (and it lasted) only brought the children what they needed kept up with the housework (you get the picture) .
Today sat in my front room feeling many things cross sad annoyed it's pure clutter and greed, dh so desperate for a ps4 last christmas has used it less times than I can count on both hands, the blue ray DVD player that's sat in its box since July, the amount of stuff dd has (ok all brought second hand but)
I get on and off and on and off it has to stop nowDebt free

I feel the same debtmess. Only one boy at home, he got so much for Christmas and it didn't even feel like a lot compared to what others probably got - he's 4 in two weeks and I have no idea where everything is going to go!My debt free diary | Post Office loan: £2131 1429.38 | Barclaycard: £4429 1988.12 | Paypal Credit £322.71 574.91 | Monzo Flex £169.03 |

^ That is weird, I had such a craving for pickled onions yesterday.:D
I want to move to more eco friendly beauty and cleaning routine and I just saw on here that you can buy vinegar in bulk so that may be something I will buy when I've used up my old cleaning stuff.

Add to tin of tomatoes and tin of baked beans = delicious protein rich instant soup. Use up any odd bits of veg in it too.2021 GC £1365.71/ £24000 -

Good afternoon everyone,
I have thoroughly enjoyed catching up on this thread over the past couple of days, in between chilling a bit (well, as much as you can with a 2 year old and a nine month old!), doing a bit of work (I work for myself from home) and decluttering. With regards to childrens toys and gifts, I have really battled with my emotions on this over the past few days. The children received LOADS despite us asking people to just get DD a few bits and nothing for DS, he is a baby who hasn't got a clue what is going on!
I feel really ungrateful and I'm truly not, its just that so many of these things are so flippin' big, and neither child is of an age where they are "into" anything as such, so its just such a waste. My local church playgroup is always in need of toys so I have bagged up a few bits to take there next week.
The only spend since Christmas Day has been £30 on fuel today. As it stands I have £85 in my purse, £20 of which is my Christmas money, and I am DETERMINED to make that last until we go on holiday on 23rd January. I can't see why it shouldn't - the £20 is paying for a treat pedicure in two days' time, so the remaining £65 is for food and any other NECESSARY spends. A big chunk will be coming out of our savings next week, £2,200, but this is to pay for the new boiler that we have just had installed - ours completely died two weeks before Christmas and with 2 small children coping with no heating or hot water is just not an option.
So here I am, cards on the table, £85 to last us until 23rd January, I will be reporting back, wish me luck! x
PS - Oneemptyshelf, I really enjoying reading your blog last night xMFW

I have been AWOL while my birthday, Christmas and then the death of my aunt took place. But I haven't been spending on the usual carp I buy to make myself feel better. Instead I've been holed up in my cave with my boys, keeping us all warm and fed and writing lists of things to do so that I keep myself busy. Because boredom is a big trigger for me. I think that in the New Year I will start a tally of NSDs and see how many I can get in a week, month and year. Ooooh - there's something else I can put on my to-do list!
My sister and her partner gave me a £50 Amazon voucher and I had fun spending that but it all went on wishlist items that I'd thought about and genuinely wanted rather than mindless browsing that leaves you wondering why the postman's delivering random items to your home a few days later.
I've got a B&Q voucher too and that will be spent on another wishlist item which is a need rather than a want for the allotment that I've not been able to afford previously.
Hope everyone's warm and safe - and Not Buying It!
