O/S Daily Monday 1st December 2014

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine

    Morning everyone

Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x

Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.

Still dark here, looks damp and dreary too.

DH up and gone to work stupid early. DS1 now getting ready for work, I’m up, showered and just finished my breakfast – I’m going with DS1 this morning to his workplace to then meet my dad there and follow him to take DS1’s car to the garage – it’s having a new cam-belt fitted. Dad and DS1 will go and collect it later when he gets out of work. Could really do without trekking to another town/village away from home on a work day morning but it needs doing etc! Just hope I get back ok without problems with the traffic etc so I can get to work on time.

Lunch yesterday was roast lamb, roasties, mash, braised red cabbage, carrots, broccolli, peas, Yorkshires and gravy – all very delicious but no meat LO, just some Yorkshires and red cabbage. Dinner tonight will be an easy fish, chips and beans for the menfolk, fish, jacket potato and veg for me – changed the menu plan around so it’s something easy in case there’s a hold up with getting DS1’s car back etc.

Was reasonably lazy yesterday – just prepped and cooked lunch, organised pack-ups, then was able to be on pc or watch tv – very chilled. Work will be reasonably busy as it’s a Monday and the 1st of the month – at least the day passes quite quickly when it’s like this. Just have this week on short hours and phased return then next week back to normal – I’ll be pleased to get back to some sort of normality. Next week is DS1’s 18th birthday – how on earth did that happen? Can’t believe the time has passed so quickly.

    Have good Monday’s everyone x

    Take care x

    Keep safe and well x

I was staring at the veg patch yesterday, wondering what to plant where next year and I realised – there are no sprouts, we'd forgotten to plant them. This means I will have to BUY SOME for Christmas dinner. Not at all impressed with myself. There's only been one Christmas in the last 14 (I think it's 14) years where we've had to buy them, and that was when the chickens escaped onto the veg patch and ate the lot in about ten minutes flat :D

This morning I'll be sorting food. Some of our onions and potatoes are going soft so I'll get them into the freezer – onions chopped, potatoes mashed. I need to box up some eggs too.

I'm going to rake the garden today, it's one of my favourite jobs. A lot of people seem to hate it but I really enjoy it. If any of you have a garden full of leaves and need it sorting, let me know :D

  • Morning all,

    :xmastree:Happy 1st December

Thank you nmic for starting the thread and Tru for the Christmas carol

I have no idea what the weather is like at the moment, but must do some washing and take DD shopping.

Roast beef yesterday with all the trimmings, and will finish it off tonight.

I must buy some puff pastry when we go shopping later ready to make sausage rolls. I have frriends coming next Thursday evening and I always put on a bit of a spread so want to make sure I have everything to hand.

    Have a good day everyone

Tru, thanks for the carol, glad you like the look of the CAL blanket, I've decided to stop when it's square, it's going to be too big & too heavy if I make it bed sized.
I've already dropped hubby at work, I'll set off myself soon.
Ham egg & chips for tea tonight, so that will be quick & easy when I get back from taking DGD to gym club.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

    Morning all.

Yay for Tru's carol corner :T I love it and wait each year so see if my favourite carol comes up, you have never failed me yet :D !

Off to work for me it seems very cold here today so will wrap up warm. Left over roast dinner for us tonight, I have everything left so will just heat it up when I get in. I ran a dinner up to mum yesterday and she really enjoyed it.

Talking of mum, she is coming to stay here for a while next week, she was going to my sisters but the granny flat is not ready so she is coming here
I love her really, I just hope I dont have her for the whole time it takes to do her house up !

Right better get on, have good days all x

Sistercas hope all goes well tomorrow x
  • Morning All

Chilly but dry so far, yesterday was wall to wall sunshine. Washing dried in the conservatory.

tru - Loving the christmas carols again, it's like the countdown has begun!
Mrs LW - So pleased for you and Docky.
    Hugs to all, they're free!

Had roast ham, creamed leeks, carrots, brocolli and yorkshires for dinner last night (DD had a baked pot too), it was lovely, didn't realise how hungry I was.

Got the bedroom ceiling painted, took the door off and took it outside to sand, washed it and it's ready to paint so will give it a coat tonight. Really need the builder to have a free day to put the floor in but he's really busy.

Back to school today, I enjoyed the outdoor centre but I'm glad it's over and I can get back to proper work.

Hope you all have a good week. Take care. XX

    Good morning everyone :santa2:

Happy 1st December, pinch punch etc etc. I've been up since 4 o'clock again so will be heading back to bed once the girls have left for school. Hubby is home as well as it's our 15th anniversary today. The time has flown, I love him more than ever and I have never had a moments regret about marrying him...anyway, that's enough soppy stuff :o:o.

We are having an indian takeaway for tea so I shall be conserving as many weightwatcher points today as possible so I can enjoy my meal, so just porridge and soup today :). I have to catch up on some washing too as it's burst out of my laundry basket. I think it's mostly towels though so it will be easy to dry and put away. Other than that, I'm planning to chill out and relax with my hubby.

Thank you Tru for the Christmas carol, I love to find out which one it will be everyday. I haven't got an advent calendar this year so I shall be living vicariously through yours :D.

Hope everyone has an amazing day whatever you are up to. Hugs are available to all who would like one. Take care xx

    Hi everyone,

    Happy anniversary to the dumplings.

I made the cake and pudding yesterday. I used mum's recipe for the cake (actually it's a good housekeeping one that she used for 50 odd years) and a family friends for the pudding (probably even older as she was in her 90's when she died about 10 years ago). The pudding recipe is very simple and includes carrots and no nuts or alcohol soI wonder if it's a holdover from rationing after the war.

I'd better go and get ready for work now, have a good day.

    Morning everyone.

Thanks for the Christmas carol Tru, I do love to see them every year.

Am sitting at the car dealership already, booked my car in for its service at 8.00am and am going to wait for it so it gets done in good time. Brought a book and my iPad and they do lovely coffee.

Had a good drive back to Glasgow yesterday, the sun was bright and the roads not too busy.

Still got this streaming cold so will probably head back to bed once I get my car back. Didn't manage any rest over the weekend and think I just need to sleep it off.

Hope everyone is doing well. Enjoy your anniversary dumpling, it's so nice to hear about your husband.
