Ideas to help sick DD7 settle for the night

I wonder if you can help.

My poor DD age 7 has been sick more than a dozen times now. I am amazed there is anything left!

She is groaning and whimpering constantly. Not managing to sleep as she must be getting lots of cramping.

She has had countless bed and pj changes. She is clean and the room is comfortable I have managed to rid the room of any smells.

I am just not sure what I can do to help her settle. Sipping water just brings another bout on but her throat is sore and she just can't lie comfortably. Music upsets her.

My tiredness is kicking in already before I am even past my bedtime so not thinking clearly what I can do to help her.

Thanks

Could she suck on chips of ice (smash up a few ice cubes) rather than drinking water, just letting them melt on her tongue?

Sitting up is often more comfortable than lying down after sickness, so prop her with plenty of pillows.

Lavender is very calming, if you have anything suitably scented.

How's her body temperature, is she feeling warm? cold? A hot water bottle to the belly is an old remedy for female cramps, and could work by helping to relax her abdominal muscles.

  • Poor girl, horrible when they are ill. My daughter is poorly at the moment with a chest infection and high temperature and the best way to settle her is bringing her in my bed and stroking her hair. She is only 3 so younger but it at least means the household gets some sleep. Hope she settles soon.

Just to add my girls all in their early 20's but regress to about age 10 when poorly. One of them has the most awful look eyes the eye balls look like they are literally bleeding... well actually they are but under the thin film and all around her eye is swollen and black, they look awful. She vomited that much it's caused a haemorrhage, she freaked last night after being asked by bardoc if she has been out the country in the last 21 days and then freaked when she did a bit of self diagnosis using the good ole web and discovered she had nearly all the symptoms (including the eyes) of Ebola.:rotfl:

Thanks I might try the crushed ice.

She has four pillows but keeps sliding down as she wriggles in pain. Her temperature seems ok. Sadly her microwave teddy was the first casualty of the night. I might see if I can dig out a hot water bottle.

Thanks for your reply. Thankfully no back pain yet. Just seems to be cramps and hurling.

Thanks. Trying to quarantine her as much as we can so the thought of sleeping with her is not ideal. I have a huge thing about me being sick. My DH is with her when she hurls as I join in with her. I do the head mopping and sheet and towel changes.

We are both bracing ourselves for Tuesday!

Thanks apart from the eyes and one of the other girls not really having much of an appetite they bounced back pretty quick considering the amount of vomiting and how bad they felt. My beautiful granddaughter was so poorly bless but bounced right back as well so hopefully you little one will feel better very soon...
