Best app to read ebooks on my tablet

  • That's probably best if you read a lot. :) Make sure that you check Amazon's free ebooks on a regular basis to pick up quite a few classics and the occasional decent newer title. (You can link your Amazon account to the Kindle device to automatically add purchases if you prefer to browse the Amazon store on a non-Kindle device.)
Q: What kind of discussions aren't allowed?
A: It goes without saying that this site's about MoneySaving.

Q: Why are some Board Guides sometimes unpleasant?
A: We very much hope this isn't the case. But if it is, please make sure you report this, as you would any other forum user's posts, to forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com.

Anecdotal (as I use an e-ink ereader myself), but I've heard many, many times that on an active screen you can reduce eye strain and fatigue by inverting the black and white (i.e. have white characters on a black page).

Post-and-run, sorry, but if no-one's recommended an Android app with this functionality by this time tomorrow, I'll have a look myself and see what I can dig up. :)

That's what I've done on my phone. I use it for all my reading with the Kindle app. Another benefit is that it seems to use less battery with white text/black background.

I have a cheap chinese 7" Android tablet. With the kindle app its very readable with no eye strain for me anyway.

The background it not a pure white. Its a faded white similar to but not quite as good as paper. It wont be upto the kindle standards but very usable.

Its a perfect size also 7".

It might not be the right place but maybe you can help....I have the kindle app on my android but it won't let me access any kindle books as I don't have a device registered...Does this mean I have to download the Amazon appstore to register the tablet (which I'd rather not tbh...)?
So far I've been reading free ebooks from the net via pdf on this tablet which I transferred from my laptop. Any advice would be much appreciated.

I find Calibre to be a pretty good ebook reader:

And to reduce eyestrain, there are apps that reduce the blue wavelengths of light emitted by the device. This works well, especially at night. This is the one I use:
