Hello. I love my Hudl tablet but suffer aching and tired eyes after a short time of reading ebooks on it.
I was thinking of buying a kindle but would rather use the tablet if there's a way to reduce the above issues I have.
I would really appreciate some positive help on this please.

Unfortunately there is no real way to reduce eyestrain when reading from an LCD screen such as the tablet has, you can try turning the brightness down, reading in a better lit room, or possibly changing the colour of the background/text (depending on app, I'm afraid I can't recommend one that will do it), but the issue is basically that this type of screen does tend to be hard on the eyes.
This is why the eink screen on the dedicated ereaders tends to be so much better, as it effectively mimics the way normal paper/ink works.
On the plus side you can get a dedicated ereader from about £30-40 now.
I bought my first ereader after trying to read a free ebook on an lcd screen and finding it really hurt my eyes to do so for more than about 30 minutes at a go, which given I can read for hours almost non stop if it's something I enjoy suggested I needed something better.0 -
I have a cheap chinese 7" Android tablet. With the kindle app its very readable with no eye strain for me anyway.
The background it not a pure white. Its a faded white similar to but not quite as good as paper. It wont be upto the kindle standards but very usable.
Its a perfect size also 7".Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Anecdotal (as I use an e-ink ereader myself), but I've heard many, many times that on an active screen you can reduce eye strain and fatigue by inverting the black and white (i.e. have white characters on a black page).
Post-and-run, sorry, but if no-one's recommended an Android app with this functionality by this time tomorrow, I'll have a look myself and see what I can dig up.

Look for a free app on google play called 'screen tools'. I use it for when I am ereading. You run it before you run your reader program read and choose the brightness levels by tapping the one you want or sliding the sliders. Tap again to revert to normal. Keep it running behind your ereading prog and you can still use the in prog brightness as well.
Just searching screen adjuster will bring up lots of others but that is the one I like.0 -
What format eBooks are you reading? If it's just MOBI files (Kindle) then the Kindle app offers options to change font size, margins, line spacing and page colour.0

I use Universal Book Reader has the choice of white, black and sepia backgrounds. I dont struggle to read on that.“Time is intended to be spent, not saved” - Alfred Wainwright0

Moon+ Reader is the free version (Google Play) and there is a paid one, Moon+ Reader Pro, that also reads PDFs. It's very good. Better than the Kindle app in my view. I have got both.0

I've tried most of the reader apps for Android and much prefer Moon+. It's very configurable: I use an inverted screen with a thin font for reading in the evening and have no problem with eyestrain.0
