Without mincing words, that's an utterly stupid decision to take. All the people who have been bankrupted and stranded abroad said the same things before they left without taking out travel insurance... A ridiculous risk to take, especially as you can get it for virtually nothing - free in fact within Europe.

Where do you get free health insurance for Europe?

My current multi-trip policy for the year for Europe is a grand sum of £12.85. It's not exactly going to break the bank!

If you insist on not having insurance and leaving valuables around your room, at least disguise them.

    It amused me.

I disagree. The way you are talking sounds like a fear mongering insurance salesman.

No, I'm talking about someone with a scrap of common sense...

If you were embarking on a 2 year trip around the world and couldn't really afford to part with the large premium then it would still be stupid, but at least you'd have a reason. Risking bankruptcy and being stranded in a foreign hospital for the sake of a tenner is madness. It is NOT like the lottery. If you lose the lottery you don't lose anything. Lose the "insurance game" and you lose everything.

Please name at least one provider who provides free European travel insurance. I believe you are mistaken.

In reality, Bulgaria is the worst place for this to happen. Its run by m@f1a Failure to pay could result in lead boots in the river.
    Best advice.
Pay up. Get a lost/stolen report. Deal with when u get home. Take hit in excess
    Glad you said it.

Nationwide does provide free European travel insurance - with some accounts anyway.

Oh my bad, I didn't realise he meant Nationwide the bank, I thought he was saying it was available anywhere, i.e. 'nation wide'! Is that only with paid accounts, as other banks do, and therefore not strictly 'free'?
