Background: I am looking to buy first home(couple with 2 year kid). Should be able to commute to Canary Wharf in 1 hour 30 mins. Should have good schools nearby.
I have seen new homes in Dartford is selling for very good prices(315 k for a detached 4 bedroom). Considering its proximity to London it is very surprising for me.

OK, it is there is a power station(coal), dartford bridge/toll and a sewage plant in the vicinity, but that might not be too close for any discomfort..
What am I missing? Could someone help please?

The catch is that it is Dartford. And not even the vaguely nice bit.0

Yeah that's a pretty nasty part of the country tbh0

I don't know what the catch is, but it's similar in price to a property of that size in my area (M11 corridoor), but looks absolutely horrible.💙💛 💔0

I live 30 mins away. Nobody wants to live in Dartford/Greys/Thurrock that I've come across. Everyone from there wants out ASAP.0

Look at St Mary's Island, Chatham Maritime easy links to London.Living the dream and retired in Cyprus :j

You're sacrificing location for quality of house. I wouldn't rush to Chatham which has its own problems. There are good areas in Dartford, but the compromise will be semi-detached.Been away for a while.0

Avoid central gravesend, medway towns, dartford, sittingbourne, Isle of Sheppey and parts of central Maidstone, you should be fine
Thats North Kent in a nutshell0 -
I would say as well:
315k is quite a lot - even for Kent.
315k will get you a semi/ EOT in Sevenoaks, Borough Green, nicer, outlying parts of Maidstone, Tonbridge, some parts of Meopham etc
Much much nicer places0 -
Power station might be coming down soon, not EU emissions compliant and has to close by the end of 2015. But I suppose they might build a new one on the same site.
The fact that it is separated by the dual carriageway from the other parts might work in it's favour.
With the future of the area uncertain it might be good value it might notChanging the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.0 -
Are we assiming its the wrong side of bob dunn way? That turns into a car park regularly meaning the houses are a bit stranded.0
