Moving house but BT don't offer very good broadband speeds in new area

Options
I'm 10 months into an 18 month BT phone and broadband contract. I was planning on just transferring everything over to my new address, but the speeds that BT offer are much lower than other providers.

Is there a way of switching without paying termination charges? I've had a look online but can't seem to find the answers I'm looking for!

I'd be grateful for any advice!

Unless it's a VM cable area then it's probable that all providers will offer the same speed unless BT only go to upto 8Mbps but there is an LLU provider offering upto 16/20Mbps. There is no guarantee that ADSL2+ (upto 16/20Mbps) will offer significantly more than plain old ADSL if it's a long line.

What estimate were you given for the new address? (Or what to the current occupiers get).
  • BT was between 4 and 8Mbps.
Virgin are offering up to 50 and looks to be around 20Mbps as a minimum when I've searched the post code.

VM cable comes at 50 100 and 152 these days.

As Browntoa said though you'll be stuck with an early termination charge. That blow may be softened by ordering cable through a cashback site. Topcashback runs fro £20 to £130 but you'd need to be taking TV as well to get the higher rates and that's hardly money saving.
