Typical unfair practices - BT within 14 days

I had BT infinity 20gb installed with 6 months free.
After 3 days using it, myBT says I have used 1/3 of my monthly allowance already. That is strange, but the computer is always on and we do watch streaming TV a bit. However, whatever the reason, I decided I needed Unlimited.
So I called BT, explained I was in the 14 day cooling off period. Note that the 14 days begins when you make the order not when it is installed.
So I ask to transfer to the Unlimited plan and keep everything else the same. I was told categorically I would lose my package discount (free for 6 months) and couldnt take up one of the existing packages (advertised as Black Friday sale).
I was told by 'Chris' that he'd dealt with many of these and he was sure I would lose my discount. So I discussed cancelling and reordering and then he said the calendar was 'really' full for the next month and then went off to discuss with 'Manager'.
'Manager' apparently told him it turns out I can keep the discount and move onto the unlimited deal.
Ah well better than nothing.
But it left a bitter taste in my mouth. And I still dont trust the people in the callcentre to have retained the discount. So I will have to call again to confirm.

There is no cooling off period once the service is provided.0

I wouldn't trust BT one bit.0

Perfectly possible to use 6GB + per day streaming TV -I was streaming SkySports on one day last week for ~7 hours and used 6GB -So anyone who takes fibre with a small usage limit is asking for trouble -unless their ADSL service was so slow/poor that they had to switch to do anything meaningful online.:)0

I suspect that BT make a foryune from excess use charges on their limited packages. 10GB ADSL and 40GB (iirc) FTTC are very miserly limits unless you are hardly using the services.0

Foolish of me to order a limited service, I know. Anyway...

I called today to confirm this discount was in place and was told it is not. Grr.
I was advised to raise a complaint and they can check the call recording where the advisor told me I could get the discount.
I guess I'll do that.0 -
Re BT's sale practices:- I signed up in June for Broadband & Calls for £10 per month for 12 months (normally £20?). BT have now increased the charge in line with their general price rise. They tell me that I am still bound to the 12 month contract even though they have changed the price. Examining last June's email order confirmation I now see that it said I am to receive a £10 pm "Special Discount" - so not necessarily what their marketing blurb said, ie a service provided at £10 pm. Misleading ! Their practice would allow them to increase the charge without limit & still demand a full years payments.0

Enough threads and an MSE sticky re BT Price rise and the fact you could get out of your contract without penalty .0
