slandered customer

I left a justified bad review of a business, and they have written online a reply slandering me as a theif. I have spoken to the manager of the business who it is obvious wrote the reply, and he denies it. The post online is on a forum under an anonymous name.

Can you prove you have been libelled (not slandered)?

    Re the bit in bold:
All you need to do is prove it. Can you do that?

Did you have a consumer rights issue?
  • A bit of a Google tells me it is libel not slander.

I'm hoping the website will remove it, they haven't yet.

If it's under an anonymous name then you have nothing.

Also, do you have a big sack of money with nothing else to spend it on? Libel proceedings are expensive.

I would respond with something like the following

"Thank you for that reply. As you seem to have knowledge of the experience I had, it can only be assumed by any other reader that you are a representative of the business. Not exactly the most professional of comments there."
One important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.

    Theirs of yours?

You can't be libelled if you're not identifiable.
  • The reply is a detailed rebuff of my bad review, that could only be from the owners of the business, I believe he has told the police it was he who wrote it. Why they got involved is another matter.

I'd like a written apology from them, just to make it clear there's no stain on my character.
