    Speak for yourself. :(

Our library is excellent. In general, libraries have been important contributors to our lives. Hopefully, notwithstanding cutbacks, they will continue to contribute.

    I'll second that!
  • Wow! Libraries are naff? Really ? Libraries played the second biggest role after me in educating my kids - schools come a distant fourth after my husband . I'm shocked that anyone can think somewhere that gives you access to thousands of books for free amongst other things can be naff . What do you consider good then ?!

Naff? How old are you?! Sounds like something a teenager would say! :rotfl:

Our locally library is actually a really good one. There was uproar when there was talk of closing it.

My local library is tiny and carries very little stock but at least we do still have a library as do all the small towns here. However we can use any library in the Provence and the entire catalogue is available to browse and order online. We have the bus service comes to the local villages weekly

Ours is exactly the same - small in size but you can order from an library in the county.

Our county is also part of a scheme where by if the book you want isn't stocked in our county but is stocked by a different county, our county can 'borrow' it for you :j:j:j

Yes, our local library is small too, but you can reserve any in stock book/audio book/cd/dvd/computer game etc online and have it delivered to any library in the county for collection. Or it can be delivered to the mobile library which goes to the small villages (admittedly somewhat infrequently)

County wide there is a good selection of books and they always seem to have the 'new releases' although there may be a bit of a wait for the more popular ones. I listen to a lot of audio-books and the library has saved me a fortune - audio-books are expensive to buy.
It is a good idea to be alone in a garden at dawn or dark so that all its shy presences may haunt you and possess you in a reverie of suspended thought.
