I'm sorry but it's you that doesn't get it.

I don't need a credit file, if one exists and card issuers look at it then it is them that needs the file, not me and as I have never been refused a financial product in my life then why do I need to bother checking what is stored on my file?

But you will have only not been refused because of what is stored on said files. You may (in your opinion) not need to obtain a copy of what is on those files but that doesn't mean you haven't needed the files themselves.

As people have said, without them you would not have been given credit facilities (at least in recent years). So I think I do get it and stand by my statement that you don't. Or are just being deliberately obtuse.

If you are really unhappy then you can 'opt out' by closing all accounts which report to a CRA (including current account, credit cards, landline, mobile phone... i.e. all of the companies that you agreed could report to the CRA's when you accepted their T&C's) and then waiting 6 years for them to drop off your file.

If that would have a negative effect on your life then obviously having a credit file does have some benefit to you by allowing you to use those products.
