The score is useless made up by the company who want to sell you something.

That has no meaning to the lenders who do not even know what they scored you.

Lenders have their own cirteria and that score is not one of them.

I have never lent money to anyone.

    Why the abuse?

Have you even read your own signature? :rotfl:
My mistake, I was tired when I wrote that, I obviously meant borrower.

There's no abuse at all, it's like you're trying to cause an argument about the fact that credit files exist, where it's a fact of life that they exist and you can't just opt-out of it.

As others have said, my signature relates to credit scores that are sold to you by CRA's. That number is meaningless. The data in your credit report however, is the complete opposite.
Credit 'Score' - Don't buy the credit 'score' that Experian, Equifax and Noddle want to sell you. It's an arbitrary number that means nothing when it comes to applying for credit.

I have not tried to cause an argument, I just disagree with the fact that 3 seperate companies have taken it upon themselves to investigate my financial records and history, including where I have lived and for how long and they have done all this without informing me or seeking my permission to do it.

If the government did this to the general public on such a large scale, would they be allowed to get away with it? like hell they would, invasion of privacy, civil liberties and all that crap.

I started this thread to express my displeasure at the situation and to a man you have all told me that I should not only accept it but that I am crazy not to.

You think the government doesn't hold loads of data all about you? You're horribly wrong.

I never consented to having to pay tax on my hard-earned money, I still have to pay it. I bought a car with my taxed hard earned money, now I have to pay more tax on that car every year. I never consented to any of it, but I still have to do it for the luxury of being in this wonderful country.

  • If people don't want to check their credit scores, they don't have to. However, when I checked mine on Experian, there were three errors that needed sorting out and I had to contact the companies concerned in writing myself. Many people really don't know that this kind of information is being held and in most cases, it really doesn't matter. It is probably sensible just to keep an eye on your credit report (which, by the way is Government sanctioned) - for your own information. Credit scores themselves are virtually useless, though, as I have been informed by Experian! And the person who has no debt, never has had any debt at any time in their life at all, is a very lucky person indeed. I know from personal experience that sometimes unavoidable things happen to throw people's lives into financial chaos, and a bit of understanding wouldn't go amiss.
  • they have done all this without informing me or seeking my permission to do it.

That's the line that sums it all up there. You HAVE given them permission every time you have applied for credit be it a mortgage, bank account credit card and so forth. Whilst you haven't expressly written down that you give your permission any bank or lender informs you that they have to do a credit check in order to proceed with your application and are you happy for this to be done. Once you've said yes there is your permission you have given.

At the end of the day without a credit file then there would be no lenders as they would not "risk" lending to all and sundry just based on their promise to pay it back.

Don't get me wrong, I signed up to Noddle for free and I don't pay for any other credit reports (unless it is required, e.g. pre mortgage application).

However, you are being very naïve if you think you have made it to 55 without using your credit reports, and that you can ignore them.

If you don't want credit ever again in your life, then by all means ignore it and ignore the bailiffs turning up at your day if they do so. But, as people have mentioned, this is a money saving website, with a lot of focus on opening high interest saving/current accounts and low interest credit cards. Being negligent to your credit record may mean you aren't eligible for these. But if you don't care, you don't care, and you're right, you can bury your head in the sand all you want with little impact.

    This sums it up nicely.

I'm with you on this. Like you I don't need or want lots of credit and would never feel the need to check.

Little or lots, if you want any credit, it's important.
