BT Home Hub Problems

I've been with BT Broadband for a number of years without a single problem. A few weeks back I decided to take them up on their offer for a speed upgrade from 2MB to 8MB, £2 off my bill and free home hub and phone.
All the equipment arrived on time, my speed was upgraded and all the equipment connected up fine. Unfortunately thats where the good news ends. Since trading in my trusty Speedtouch I've had nothing but problems with the Homehub.
Hardly a day has gone by where my internet connection has been lost and I've had to reset the hub. The speed doesn't seem to be any faster than what I was getting through my speedtouch either. I've checked my connections through the BT Help software and everything seems to be set up right.
Is there some tweaking I can do to improve the reliability of the connection or is the Homehub really that bad?
To be honest I was thinking of ditching the hub and connecting the Speedtouch back!
Any help or thoughts would be appreciated

So revert back to the old modem and check your speed. Unfortunately lots of users find that this upto 8Mb is actually slower than a good solid 2Mb connection.

the speed should stablise after 10 days - however, I imagine you've already got past this point ... also if you managed to get 2mb before - then you should be getting around 5/7mb with the 'up to 8mb'0

I Am Having Exactly The Same Problem And Am Trying To Get Out Of My Contract With Bt As They Are Failing To Provide A Proper Service. I Completely Sympathise With You. Has Anyone Any Advise On Getting Out Of The Contract Without Me Having To Pay A Full Years Subscription?0

Out of curiosity, why the ten days lag time? Is it something to do with the physical equipment having to 'get used to' the new speed, or an administrative or burocratic delay in the systems?
The speedtouch is a reliable modem, but I've found it gives a slower performance (between 25-40%) than an ethernet modem. I tested this on my line earlier this week and was astonished at what I was getting with an ethernet modem compared to the speedtouch. Of course, get a reliable ethernet modem, an unreliable one is as good as no modem at all.

I'd persevere with the hub for a bit longer because without it you lose the other BT services like Broadband Talk and BT Vision. Without these extras, BT Broadband doesn't look such a good deal.
More info at http://www.frequencycast.co.uk/homehub.html.
I'm getting one of these next week after more than six years with the same (very reliable) Motorola Surfboard cable modem. Wish me luck!0 -
I had to swap out my first home hub as it kept grinding to a halt, took a bit of arguing with the call centre abroad...it helped that i had my old trial router/modem that BT had supplied when I did the Broadband talk trial as that worked fine and was able to prove that fact it was NOT my PC/wiring etc
I've also turned off the built in firewall as it seemed to slow it down (rely on my own software firewall)Ex forum ambassador
