I'm wondering if anyone could help me, im after a sim for occasional use but as a way to call the recipient but the phones are likely to be from the Nokia 3310 era so old school, is this possible or is a cheap contract the only way to go.

Thanks

Delight Mobile currently has a very similar offer to Three (Three is 3g only so not for you), with 3p a minute to UK phones, texts at 2p.

Or Toggle Mobile also has 3p a minute calls, and might also be interesting for roaming use as it has this rate to home from about a dozen other countries. The initial top up is £20 though, which might be offputting, and it will expire slightly faster if unused.

    8p/min (O2 signal)

Vectone have 50 minutes monthly bundle for £1 (EE signal).

giffgaff are another option with O2 signal. 6p a text and 10p a minute and there's a new addition to the T&C's which allows one to keep a sim active just by receiving a certain number of calls in every 6 month period. There are also goodybags which give the cheap contract illusion; for a low user, the best is 60 minutes + an extra minute for every minute they are called from a landline or other network, and 300 texts for £5 a month.

All the sims they now send out are 4G but they will just work with the highest signal available, so 2G in this case. Get referred by an existing member and they give £5 free credit upon activation.

Basically all standard sim cards will work in 2G phones with the exception of 3.

I would personally suggest Sainsbury's Mobile.

It has similar rates to Tesco Mobile 8p per min / 4p per text, but I found Sainsbury's Mobile (Vodafone) to have better 2G coverage than Tesco Mobile / Giff Gaff (O2).

Also, the minimum topup is £5 on Sainsbury's rather than £10 on Tesco / Giff Gaff.

Sainsbury's must only sell them to me then ;)

Go into Sainsbury's, ask for a £5 MBS topup and tell them I sent you :A

Mobile by Sainsbury’s announces competitive Pay-As-You-Go price plan
For customers that want a simple price plan to use infrequently there is also the option of the basic price plan with calls at 8p per minute, 4p per text and a data price of 50p per day (for up to 25MB). It also offers double Nectar points on the value of top-ups.

Whatever price plan customers chose they will be able to top up their Mobile by Sainsbury’s balance for as little as £5.

The next thing I need to do is find out what network has the best coverage for the area.

    Thanks everyone.
