Points removed from licence
Hi
Wondering if anyone else has had this/knows the answer?
I had 3 points put on my licence in March, paid the fine and they filled out the paper part saying "3 points £60 fine etc etc".
My licence expired this month so sent both parts away for renewal and when I've got them back the paper part has no record of the fine on it.
So have I just got lucky and the points have vanished or is all that info stored on a computer for insurers etc to see?
Main reason for asking is my insurance is due in March and in the past I've only had to send a copy of the paper part to prove whether I have points or not. (and that now says I'm clean).
Don't want to lie and say I've got none if they can check online but also don't want to own up and pay extra if I've some how slipped through the system.
Any advice/answer appreciated.

If you only have 3 points then (AFAIK) insurers don't really load policies for that. (They used to say "1 speeding and 2 parking fines may be ignored" - I don't know if they still do ... I have had a company car for a few years).
As to the question - I believe the records are stored electronically, so it wouldn't be worth the risk to mis-state the truth.
PS - I thought only the photocard part expired. Did you really have to send in the paper part when renewing the photocard?0 -

But the three-point fixed penalty fine went up to £100 before March this year.0 -
So what you're really asking is whether we think you should commit insurance fraud or not?0

Are you sure about the fine? It went up from £60 to £100 a couple of years ago.
Whatever, the paper counterpoint will be obsolete in a few months time. In the meantime, you can check what DVLA have on your record at https://www.gov.uk/view-driving-licence
I'd be surprised if any insurer asked to see your licence: they've been able to check online for years.0 -

It wasn't a couple of years ago - it was earlier this year (in Scotland at least). I got pulled for speeding in December 2013 and got 3 points and a £60 fine. A colleague was pulled early this year (end February?) and got 3 points and a £100 fine.0 -
TBH I can't remember what the fine was might have been £60 might have been £100 I just went down and paid it. It's not really relevant.
I was changing address and renewing the licence at the same time and on the wee leaflet you get from the PO said to send in both parts. Maybe I misunderstood it but I sent them both in and they both came back only the paper bit no longer had my points on them.
As for the insurance fraud Q; No not particularly. All I wanted to know was if there's a separate record of fines and points someone can check or if all they can go by is what's on your licence.
If there's no record of it and no way to prove it then it didn't happen (in my mind). Unethical? Maybe but I'd rather not pay extra if I didn't have too lol.
Thanks for the responses I'll maybe just wait and see wait sort of quotes I get at the time, see if there is any huge difference between ones with the points and ones without them and make my decision that way lol.0 -

This works ... it shows my SP30 offence dated 04/12/2012. Which just goes to show how time flies ... I was convinced it was last December I got pulled.

It was August 2013 - in Scotland as well as England (link). If you got a £60 fixed penalty in December 2013 then you were lucky - someone must have made a mistake. It wasn't a couple of years ago - it was earlier this year (in Scotland at least). It is, because it could raise the question of the wrong payment being sent/received, and therefore the fixed penalty offer being withdrawn and the prosecution referred to court.0
