  • Offffft that sounds like me 5 years ago!!!

I couldn't tell you the cost of things or how much I had spent and I would have went Black Friday shopping with no view to what I was actually going to buy!

Did get a nice watch though for £40 on Amazon :D Still selling for £125 a year later! ;)

  • News is fascinating. Arrests in suermarkets,I am mesmerised. The world has gone mad.
  • I was beginning to get sucked in by it all. Thank goodness for all you sensible people on here. This Christmas has to be planned to the penny or else we won't get through it.

Yep, I'm watching the news and thinking to myself that I'm not going out into that LOL

On the outside looking in, it's actually really scary to see the way people act while trying to get a "deal" but thinking back to the first Black Friday there were some genuinely great offers but now it's just a couple of 'meh' offers and a chance to do a bit of a sale.

So many people talking about the money they've 'saved' when in fact they have just spent more than they would have if it wasn't for the sales and ended up with more junk they don't need.

Mugs (or is that a bit harsh?)!

Black Friday is an entirely new concept to us but evidently massive numbers of people are being suckered into the frenzy. I nearly contracted to buy far more furniture than I had intended simply because of the 'bargains' on offer. The hype said that if I spent £1500 I would get interest free credit for 2 years. I have been thinking about a new dining table and chairs for some years and I had already resolved to buy a new set of drawers for the living room (the old set are rickety and dangerous with drawers that creep open). I almost did manage to justify the extra expense because of of the 'bargains' and making it up to the £1500 mark to get the favourable finance. Sanity prevailed in the end and I stopped with just the sideboard that actually does need replacing - but only because I went onto Amazon and checked prices there. I found exactly the same sideboard as the one from the furniture shop. The one in the furniture shop was billed at half price, which was why it was so tempting, but the exact same piece of furniture from another supplier was on Amazon for £1 less and free shipping (and 5 days instead of 11 weeks lead time). And I'm savvy these days...like to pride myself that I have changed, that I know what I am doing and I'm not stupid.....
Debt Free! Long road, but we did it

I'm trying to buy a tumble dryer - queue to get on Curry's website this morning was 53 minutes! God knows what the shops are like if this is what it's like online!
Parents are buying us the tumble dryer as a Christmas present so I thought today would be a good day to get a bargain but not if you cant even get on the website! When I eventually do I will look at the tumble dryer page and go - I wont be suckered in by all the "bargains" that we don't actually need!
And I bet after all this the one I want wont even be on sale!
    Debt as at 5 June 2023 - £15,600.89
    Current debt - £6,450.00
Total paid off - £9,150.89 (58% paid off)

I just got one from Very.co.uk last week, £150 and it's great. It's a condenser as it's in the garage with my fibre glass sports car so didn't want any condensation, but I absolutely love it! Doubt you'll find one much cheaper, I done lots of looking around.

I've spent more on BF stuff than I intended, but it's largely stuff I'd have bought over the next few months anyway, brought forward.

I do normally avoid it though as it's usually stuff I really don't need.
