Dacs Line

My daughter is about to transfer her AOL broadband from her house to mine. But I have been told my a BT engineer that we have a"Dax Line" - in effect the line is somehow split. Question is, will this Dax line affect the speed/quality of the broadband? Any advise would be appreciated.

If BT have too many people wanting a phone line and not enough copper line to supply they put on a DACS box this splits one line into two.
If you modem will not connect faster than 28000K or suddenly drops you have been DACS'D!)
I have just found the above on a website, so if you are indeed on a dax line then BB will be very poor if indeed it works at all0 -

ADSL can't be provisioned on a DACS line, so if BT cannot supply you with a new line, you won't get more than approx 28kbps.

The DACS system has to be removed in order to provide BB. Dont get confused that it is not your telephone supplier (BT Retail) that are responsible for the DACS on the line. Openreach are the wholesale company who maintain the line and it is down to them to sort it on behalf of your BB supplier.
If you ask your BB supplier to have the DACS removed you may find that they could refuse to do it due to them being billed by Openreach to do the work and some companies will not pay over a certain amount.0 -
You can get broadband on there, however you could be looking on a period between 2-3 weeks to over a year before the ADSL is provided on the line!0

diamond dave,
telephone man is correct. DACS systems were installed to cut BT's costs, long before ADSL broadband was invented. However, DACS is incompatible with broadband. Your new ISP is responsible for arranging the removal of your DACS system. It will not cost you anything - you have a right to have it removed.0 -
Lots of thanks for all your replies. Will be getting in touch with AOL immed.!0

Only if it can be given to someone else. I live at the end of the phone line and got my dax removed to have BB. It was given to next door who will how never get BB!0 -
Update on DACS line - Openreach guy called yesterday and do the job, - great news. Only trouble is my old PC does not have a port on it to connect the Ethernet cable. Does any one know if I need a NIC - or is there another way to connect. Again, thanks for all replies.0
