So you've got 2 laptops, and you plug the ethernet cable into both of them and the internet doesnt work on either ?

hmm, are you sure your internet provider is working OK, or it could also be a loose/faulty ethernet cable (perhaps been yanked on too much)?

For wireless do you have all your credentials to log into the router by wireless (router password etc)?

Unfortunately I dont have windows 8 (I might have to upgrade to it if im to help on this forum :rotfl:) so Im gonna have to let one of the other guys take over the wireless setup part.

As the ethernet cable no longer working on the Asus but working on the other laptop (and no settings have been changed), it would suggest the ethernet port has failed but you should have no issue getting internet through wireless.

delete the nic, from device manager > Network adapters, and reboot.

It should find your nic and reinstall the drivers again.
