Fastest 0% CC from application to receiving card?

Options
Hi all,
Could anyone give me an idea of which 0% credit cards appear the quickest (through the post!) from application?

A relative applied online for a 0% Sainsburys card a couple of months ago and it took a good month for the decision, paperwork arrival, paperwork sent back, card and pin arriving.

I'd like to buy some new furniture ASAP for our new house you see...

Many thanks!

What type of 0% offer are you talking about?
Presumably you want 0% for x months on purchase transactions, and plan to use this card in store for such purchases.

You can apply online for many of them, and most will give you an instant decision (although they may refer you if borderline acceptable)

Once accepted, the card normally arrives within a few days. :)
Best to allow up to say 2 weeks for card and PIN to arrive (which will come separately)

I recently applied for the Barclaycard 34 months 0% balance transfer and 0% purchases for 9 months card on Sunday night just gone and was accepted instantly; PIN arrived on Tuesday and card arrived yesterday (Wednesday).

Hi, thanks for your reply - I've never really used a credit card before so forgive my ignorance :rotfl:

Yes it would be 0% for as many months as possible on purchases, and to use the card in stores. I don't have a balance to transfer or anything.

We move a week tomorrow (Friday 5th) and so I want to apply for it immediately after that - I would apply beforehand but don't want it to show up on credit file before completion of our house purchase just in case! But then would like to purchase a fair amount before Christmas. I shouldn't have a problem credit wise so hopefully it will be a quick turnaround :)

You may have an electoral roll/ID issue to contend with, depending on the address you put on the application form.

That, coupled with the fact you haven't a history of managing credit cards (reading between the lines) and a recent mortgage search or two, may mean you're disappointed and have buy the furniture with savings instead.

Last month I applied for a Bank Of Scotland 0% card and time from application to card was about 4 days which was good.

However, conversely the credit limit given was so laughable (about 15% of the usual limit I recieve) I haven't even bothered to use it as I'd probably max it out in 2 months of normal spending.

If you are moving so soon, you might encounter problems of being accepted due to not being on the electoral roll at your new address.

If you've never used or applied for a credit card before, have you checked your credit files to make sure nothing is amiss before applying?

    I'm not sure what that means;
    • never had one?
    • had one in the past but not now?
    • have one now but don't use it?
    • something else?
Anyway, experience shows that getting a decent card requires a history of using credit well in the past.

There can't be an awful lot wrong with their credit files, being as they've been accepted for a mortgage. :)

Thanks for all the replies. I did an Experian credit check before applying for the full mortgage back in September which was all fine.

I've got a credit card which I've never used, shoved in a drawer somewhere which I could use again but it's not 0%.

Your points about electoral roll are quite pressing... does anyone have an idea of when that might be updated once I move in (assuming I change my address on there that day?)

Could be almost immediately, but may also be early January...depending on how long it takes the CRAs to update the ER annual canvas returns.

But then you have another problem...your 'time at address' is very short.
