How to find out who leaves star ratings

Can anyone tell me how to find out who actually leaves the star ratings on EBay. I know there is a way to do this as I've noticed people on here mention it but I can't see how to find this. I've got good star ratings but one just fell from 5.0 to 4.9 and I just wondered why. Is it okay to ask buyers the reason for that? I don't like people to be disappointed with their purchase and all feedback is good so a bit confused with this.
I put as much as I can on my description and as honest as I can also. I communicate well and despatch the day after payment and sometimes the same day if paid in the morning. I charge 10p above the actual postage cost to cover the postage bag so not sure why someone wasn't happy. Many thanks.

If you go to seller dashboard on the left hand side is a tab that says " detailed seller ratings reports " click on that and request a report for " Ebay premuim service" - takes a little while to get - it will just show the spread of the star marks. It's designed to be slightly out of sync to when the ratings are made so you can't tell for sure unless you are receiving very few feedbacks.
As far as I am aware - The only way to find out who gave you the lower mark for sure is if it caused a defect - so that's 1-3 for description and 1 for dispatch. You go back to seller dashboard - on defects - expand and request a report - this is only updated once a week on a weds. As low postage doesn't cause a defect - then it won't come up! Im the same - charge the price of the stamp - but you can never please buyers all the time. I genuinely believe they think some of us are in league with the post office lol
Ebay warn when you request reports its against policy to message buyers about star marks. I call them smiling assassins - giving defects behind smiley positive feedback as the buyer can give a 3 on description and gets no warning what damage they are causing !Stuck on the carousel in Disneyland's Fantasyland

Is that not what feedback is supposed to be - anonymous? I mainly buy on ebay, but do sell so I've seen both sides.
I've knocked stars off in the past while giving positive feedback. This shows I'm happy overall, but feel miffed if I feel I've been overcharged - I am talking about recently being charged £6 for 2 items, sent together for the price of a large letter, so justified to me. If this seller thought this deserved 5 stars, then it was never going to happen and why should I have to go on the defensive and justify my rating? Others will have different ideas on this, hence you'll occasionally get knocked down a star or two on occasion, even if it seems unfair to you.
4 out of 5 should be considered a good mark - I'd watch a film, read a book or book a hotel that had 4/5?
I, for one, wouldn't want sellers emailing me to ask why I had knocked a star off - some might reply to a nicely worded request, but you also risk a response of '!!!!!! off' and losing future sales?0 -
Thank you both for your replies. Very much appreciated.
Densol - I've just requested the report. I wasn't sure how to do that. That's today's learning lol. Thanks again!
No defects thankfully but was just curious as to who left a lower star. Over the last few sales a couple had gone through the large letter slot and I sent message to the buyers to let me know when they had received their item and I would then do a partial postage refund. I got a reply from one person when they received their item and I did the partial postage refund for them as I never like to overcharge on postage as I've been ripped off before and I feel it's expensive enough now. The other person also gave good feedback but has not replied to my message. I was just wondering if it was this buyer who marked me down which is unfair as I had sent the message the same day as I posted the parcel. Some people never answer their messages which is a pity.
I just read that also at the bottom of the page that you cannot ask a buyer about the star rating they left so that's fine......now I know (although I would have been nice about it). You're right, some people don't realise what damage they can do to people's account with these ratings.
flashg67 - Yes I'd be annoyed at that also. That is ripping someone off. I always offer to do a partial refund if an item goes for the large letter rate. There are occasionally items which are borderline and we don't always know until the parcel is fully sealed if it's going to go through the LL slot. I feel it's always fair to offer the difference (less the 10% EBay has already deducted) but buyers are always happy to receive this portion back.
You're right also that people might take umbridge at being asked so I won't do that.

Densol, when running the reports, what is the best date range? And do you move the date range if you run the reports everyday? so if you ran it for 4th to 14th Nov then would you do 5th to 15th or does that not matter. Sorry to ask a daft question but I have never run a report before so the date range baffles me.0

I started selling on 24th Sep so thats always my first date and the last date is the day I run the report. I name the report with the current feed back score and comms DSR I have ( as that is the most ) so today I called it " stars 245/ 100 " i can then keep a check on whether all the Dsr's are taken into account against that feedback score.
My dispatch time got slightly dinged a month ago ( a few 4's) even though I dispatched well on time. What seemed to cause it was sending buyers an email the night before telling them i was posting in the morning ( well in time and quicker than my dispatch timenof 2 days ) well anyway some must have seen that as an "apology" for sending next day - rather than a nice informative message - so I stopped that and the marks went back to 5's .... So if you look at DSR every day it can reveal patterns in buyers thinkingStuck on the carousel in Disneyland's Fantasyland
