Recheck your list
I have recently used my Amex card in both Boots and Nandos without quibble. That's two at mere glance only.
Check http://www.whoacceptsamex.co.uk/. Not sure how accurate that is though.0 -

It will be several times longer.0 -
Your data source is suspect - I have used Amex in Boots, Co-Op, Halfords, John Lewis and London Transport. Virgin also take Amex.
As for the other organisations on your list I really couldn't care less - for example - that the Tottenham Hotspur online shop doesn't accept Amex
Without being sniffy, there are a lot of low rent shops on the list I wouldn't be seen dead in anyway LOL0 -

Your list is very very outdated. Half of these places have taken Amex for years and 25% of the other 50 usually take it but is franchise dependent or only take it in-store (not online). That must be very very old though as John Lewis started taking Amex over 10 years ago now and so have Halfords. Holland and Barrett just started to accept Amex a couple of months ago, the same time as Vue cinema.0 -
Boots takes Amex, I asked them last week at the counter.
Strangely enough, you can pay with Amex through PayPal, which gets round some situations.
The most bizarre thing though is Costco. I get 2% cashback for being an Executive Member (£30 annual fee), and now I will get 1.25% from the Cashback Amex (£25 annual fee) on top. Ignoring the 5% cashback up to £2,500 promotion deal, I need to spend £2,000 a year to break even, which is not hard to do.
Funny thing is, I get 3% cashback on petrol normally from the Santander 123 credit card, so should I use the 5% cashback from Amex, or save it for something else. Filling up today, if the new price drop has happened.0 -

Complete this form and fill up in £50 chunks at BP paying with AMEX between now and then end of January. Get £5 rebated plus your AMEX cashback and some Nectar points.

Good promotion, if I had a big car with a 60 litre tank.
I have a small car, and the typical fill-up is more like £30.
It is also clashing with the 5% deal, see below.
As BP tends to be a little more expensive than the Sainsburys I usually go to, this deal means I have to spend about 80p more buying the petrol on a 40 litre fill-up.
When the 5% deal is used up, will try to use this deal.
I suppose I could hang out on the forecourt like a pimp, and offer to pay for total strangers driving Jaguars.

i wouldn't swap the Amex Cashback card for any card on the market. my account is slightly preferable to the terms available now, but even so...it is the best card available.:T0
