Nope - never had a problem with them, I have three cards at the moment.
Most places accept Amex in cities, its when you move further out and find small independents who do not. So just carry a backup card with you.

    Where in the e-mail?

    Highlights
    • 5% cashback during your first three months on up to £2,500 in purchases.
    • After the introductory period you’ll receive 1.25% cashback on virtually everything you buy – not just for a limited period.
    • 2.5% cashback in the first month of every year if you spend more than £10,001 in your previous 12 months of Cardmembership.

The downside is the £25 Annual Fee.

Because I applied through Quidco, the £25 cashback pays for the first annual fee.

Try to spend £2,500 in three months to get the £125 cashback.

The 1.25% cashback means I have to spend £2,000 to pay for the £25 Annual Fee each year. Not hard to do, as I can use it in Costco.

At the moment, I am getting 1% cashback from Waitrose by using the Santander 123 credit card. Prior to the Santander, I was getting 1% from Waitrose by using the John Lewis Partnership Card, but the cashback comes as John Lewis vouchers, so is a little restrictive. The Amex 1.25% is just money I can spend on the card.

I did compare the two when applying.
With this one, the 1.25% only kicks in after spending £7,500.
If you were going for the 5% cashback, it's up to £2,000, not £2,500.

    • 5% cashback during your first three months on up to £2,000 in purchases1
    • After the first three months you’ll earn up to 1.25% cashback, depending on how much you spend on the Card2:
    • Spend £0 to £3,500 and receive 0.5% cashback on that spend
    • Spend between £3,500 and £7,500, receive 1% cashback on that spend
    • Spend over £7,501 and receive 1.25% cashback on that spend
    • As long as you spend a minimum of £3,000 in a year, almost every full pound you spend on your Card qualifies for cashback.
    • 1 complimentary Supplementary Card for family members, generating even more cashback for your account.5

Literally got the card today. The £25 annual fee one.
Will probably cancel when I get the cashback, on the anniversary. 1.25% cashback during the first year is pretty good. I currently get no cashback for Costco at all. Cannot use the Santander 123.
  • it said on my letter my annual income was not enough
Maybe I'm too safe for them lol going to phone them tomorrow and ask why

I suspect it may be because your annual income was not enough.

Oh dear, whipped out the Amex, and the travel agent wants 4% surcharge! Back in the wallet, and out comes the MasterCard, for only 2% surcharge.

    Amex is good though!

The problem with Amex is that it is not very widely accepted.

I have an Amex card from Barclaycard. (1% cashback, no annual fee)
Fortunately they also provide a Visa card on the same account, presumably because they are fully aware of the resticted acceptence of Amex. (Using this only pays 0.5% cashback though)

I would never pay an annual fee for holding a credit card.

(unless you've done all the sums and are certain in your own mind you will use it enough to make that money back and some. I am never certain as I don't like be tied to using a specific card anyway, and you you never know what great credit card offer may be just around the corner)

It is widely accepted. I'd estimate that over 95% of retailers taking credit cards take AMEX.

My dentist is the only place I've found that insisted on a Mastercard or Visa being used.

Tesco pay at pump wasn't a fan, but the kiosk accepts it.
