Boiler interlock

Hi, I am hoping some one can answer this question for me, for a while now I have been looking in having a room thermostat fitted, looking at getting the BG HIVE system as then I can control it away from home. I looked into what I need to be able to have one fitted, where as I have everything I know of in place to be able to have the stat one thing I have read into is called a Boiler Interlock. Now I know what this is for, so that the boiler actually switches off when the stat tells it to or if it's not there the boiler will continue to run in the back ground so to speak. So my question is "how do I know if my boiler has this, how is it done and exactly what is it? " As far as I know it's a sequence of wires on the boiler. I have scouted the Internet trying to get answers for these questions but no luck. I have even spoken to a gas engineer at British gas about this and worryingly I got the answer " what is that" well after explaining this to I'm and getting silence I ended the call. How does someone like that not know what this is. I'm a builder by trade so DIY is my thing but boilers I aint a clue. Can anyone give me any information about this please? I was hoping it would get done if needed when the stat was fitted but after that call to BG it makes me think it won't and my boiler will just keep running.
Thank
You.

As you say boiler interlock turns the boiler on & off under control of the external thermostats rather than just letting the boiler cook gently and the room or tank stats only controlling the pump/valves.
How it's implemented depends on the boiler and the type of heating system as some have connections especially to do the job. Either direct from the stat for combis and frequently via auxiliary contacts on motorised valves for fully pumped systems.
Many boilers have pump/fan over run systems - ie the boiler has to shut down gracefully rather than just being shut off so there is a specific place to connect the stat/valve control wiring to the boiler to ensure that it does.
You need to identify what boiler you've got, the type of heating system and how your existing controls (if any) are configured especially if you've got motorised valves.Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0
