Preparing for Winter V

It,s hard to know how to prepare for flash floods like this. I suppose a permanent supply of sandbags might be of some help but one might probably be either too late or to elderly and ohysically unable to move them to key water access points. Even the slightest access of water indoors can cause serious snd ectensive damage u fortunately.
i suppose it just shows how unlucky you can be in buying what you think is an "ordinary" house in a slightly "low" position or a "dip" now we,re in a climate change situation. Our driveway has a very slight dip downward slope towards our garage and front door and despite a soakaway drain in front of the garage we,ve had several occasions recently where heavy rainfall and storms have brought us close to a flooding incident. We,ve now put our freezer in the garage onto a pallet to reduce the risk of it coming into contact with floodwater. We regularly have to clear out the soakaway drain of loose grit snd dirt from the driveway which gets washed down the slight slope into it snd clogs it up.10 -
We are on the east Kent coast and I could hear the rain during the night but it's been mainly dry during the day.7

Well all the knitted stuff washed and dried. Just need to go and grab it in off the line.
Spent today in some sunshine building the base of a bed into a van we are converting as a day trip/camper van with husband so that we can actually use it and that will be our holidays from now on.
We are very lucky RE: Flooding in that we live at the top of a mountain and so everything drains away from us and the lowest point in our valley is a river so we will be a long way off flooding but our little village is prone to mud and landslides, as well as trees coming down.
That is something that really worries me though as Im sure several members will remember our village getting cut off at Christmas one year because of a large mudslide on the main route into our village. On a good day there is only 3 routes into the village - main road, top road which is a very steep hill with horrid turns where the road subsiding over time, and then the mountain road which is one car width in places with lots of old trees and overgrowth! It takes hours to get anywhere if one of them is shut and there is no public transport to the village if the main road is shut. It also applies if there is bad weather , the top area of our village (where I live) is cut off because the mountain is so steep and the buses cant get up here. So I am determined to get stocking up my stock pile again and my store cupboard because if anything goes squiffy and the roads get shut then I want to know we have plenty in as I'm sure the 2 small spars we have and one coop really will be under a lot of strain to support a village of 5000+Time to find me again10 -
We had a yellow storm warning in Essex yesterday, but it just gently rained on and off. It actually feels very warm today and it is nice with the sun streaming through the window.
I am going to go through the airing cupboard and wash the duvet covers and pillowcases while we have warm weather. I put a duvet cover on our bed the other day and it smells musty so I am going to refresh them all by washing and line drying before it gets cold.
We are getting a quote for the work to be finished in our garden and we have the insurance people coming over Monday so I am tentatively saying that all the work in our house should be finished by the end of this month.
I am placing an Amazon order for three more LED candles, flea treatment for my pets, a replacement filter for my air purifier and a new academic calendar. Oh yes, some anti-arthritis gloves too. I have a phone appointment with my GP mid September, but I thought I would try the gloves before I talk to him.

Sammy Kaye. You are so right to think abiut stocking up ewrly. Life is full of unexpected hazards and knowing you,re prepared against such eventualities if the storms come u expectedly ewrly will give peace of mind. How often we,ve often delayed getting round to these things and then regretted it! It's bad eniugh having to face all the unexpected health hazards life throws at us without regretting the things weactuy cool have prepared for!10
