When it is icy on car windscreen I put 2 hot hot water bottles on the dash near the windscreen (one each side) half hour or so before I leave and the ice has melted plus the cabin is warm and child happy going to school as he can cuddle the now just warm bottles8

It went down to just under 20 in my house last night. I did get some socks and a winter cardigan to sit on the sofa and I slept in them too. It feels okay today though and I have all the windows open. I have switched from iced coffee to hot coffee in the mornings, though.
My husband needs to book his flu jab still, but he can do it this week as he needs to go and pick up a prescription. I also changed pharmacy as I realised there is one near me that is open on Saturdays and the one I joined when I moved here is closed on Saturdays. He will get some more paracetamol too as we are completely out.
I was craving winter stodge last night so I think I will make a roast dinner with gravy tonight.

Oooh thanks for the reminder about flu vaccinations! I have twice-weekly long train-journeys in October, working away, and it would be very sensible of me to sort out a flu vaccine plus if possible pay for a Covid booster well before my first journey...2025 remaining: 37 coupons from 66:

I often do a couple of quick granary rolls for our lunch, and today as it was so dark and grey out there (it was lovely when I was swimming at the quarry this morning though!) I did pizza-stuffed rolls. They worked really well so I shall add them to our colder-months lunch menu... ordinary granary roll dough, to make four small rolls, and just before final shaping, I stretch them out to large flat circles, add a dollop of pizza sauce (I freeze it in large ice-cube trays), a bit of mozzarella and cheddar (we keep those in the freezer, grated and tossed with a bit of cornflour to stop it sticking) and chopped a fat clove of garlic into the mix as well. then I pinched together all the edges to make a ball, with the seal underneath, put the four of them into a little dish and sprinkle a bit of cheddar on top and bake.

For dehumidifying your car, I do this - a plastic chinese takeaway box, pour some salt in the bottom and layer of cat litter on top. Absorbs the moisture and the salt will keep the air ....clean? If not then it's 2 layers of moisture absorber
Mine sits in the car all year round. I replace it a couple of times over the winter though. Salt is too cheap to be putting the oven on to dry it out to reuse it
I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.6 -
We have moved our bed into the second bedroom as it is quieter. I woke up yesterday feeling very achy and I checked the temperature in the bedroom last night and it was below 19. That is almost at the point I would put the heating on and it isn't even September. I slept last night with the windows closed in there and and feel much better today. I just went outside and it doesn't feel that cold to me, but my house is old and feels chilly.
I just wore my boots out for the first time in months. It felt weird after wearing trainers or sandals all summer. I felt like I was on tiptoes. I just went to get two maxi dresses altered to shorter dresses as I thought I would get more wear out of them with tights and boots in the colder months. It came to £24 for both which I thought was quite expensive as I only used to pay £8 for each item at my old dry cleaners in London!
My husband went to ask about the flu jab in our local pharmacy and the woman working there said it isn't free for over 50's anymore. They said they would call him for an appointment, but they didn't so I just said to book it at the same Boots I did. He could only get mid October now as it was all booked up until then and I got mid September when I booked mine so quite a difference.

Time to find me again7 -
Chopped up logs & filled the log store with enough for winter.
Booked a chimney sweep.
Sorted out my gas bottles ready.....13 bottles/132 kgs of calor gas in total.
Booked the car in for a service before winter arrives.
Cleaned my solar panels.
Changed my Octopus tariff so I get more for energy I export to the grid.
I'm almost ready for winter........10 -
@sammy_kaye18 - the pizza "toppings" go a lot further when you put them inside doughballs, too
So pizza-stuffed rolls are cheaper and healthier
I always smuggle extra chopped onion and garlic in, and less cheese... it's a bit trial and error to judge the tomato sauce right, but if you get it wrong it still tastes fab, it's just all oozey and messy, which is arguably more fun anyway
