My curiosity got the better of me this morning, so at 0630 I threw all caution to the wind and ... gasp! ... put the central heating on. The room stat showed 16.3°C at the time. I switched it off one hour later, by which time the stat showed 17.4°C.
That little exercise cost me a total of £1.03 in gas and electricity ...

That little exercise cost me £1.03 ...I hope at least you felt warmer. Perhaps it would cost a little bit less to maintain it as the boiler probably ran much of that hour to raise the temperature and should hopefully cut out when it's reached it, but still... £1.03
I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)
The sun's been out and I think I’m solar powered (Onebrokelady)

My parents stayed here whilst we had a few days away, they used the heating every morning and mid afternoon/evening, set at 20 degrees. They both showered daily too and the cost of gas for the entire time was £5.37. (Dad was fascinated by the smart display unit so kept track of what the were using)
(our boiler and all radiators were replaced 3 years ago and we are in a bungalow - for reference)
We haven’t had it on ourselves yet, back doors and windows still open and summer duvet still on the bed. Long may it last.8 -

SuperMoose said:Hello allI can't remember which OS thread it was on but there was talk about Turtle Doves and their fingerless cashmere gloves. Thought this thread would be a good place to mention them.I liked the idea of them but £35 is a lot of money to pay so I was really pleased to see they have an Ebay shop selling factory seconds for £7.99 including P&P. If you want more than one pair it's even cheaper. You can't pick a colour but for that price I'm not bothered!I ordered a pair that arrived 2 days later and I'm still not sure what is wrong with them
They are fab and so warm.
Link in case anyone else wants a pair
They arrived super quick and when I looked at the colours on E Bay I thought anything but orange - not my colour but blue would be ideal.
I was a bit wary opening the box but not to worry - navy blue.
I think you should be on commission from Turtle Doves. If you go down to the woods today you better not go alone.11 -
Two more books added to the winter reading pile today courtesy of the Little Free Library and two donated.
Hats, scarves and gloves (all clean) brought out of storage and placed in the basket in the coat cupboard, along with boots and wellies. Not needed as yet but they're ready for when we do.Be kind to others and to yourself too.5 -
