I put our new wool duvet on this week when I changed the sheets. So far it seems to keep us warm but not too hot. Haven't gone to the flannelette sheets yet, trying to put off until October! I've ordered a thick mattress topper to see if it will help DH with sleeping.2025 Fashion on the ration

I ordered a wool mattress topper and it really helped with the arthritis pain that was waking me up each night. However it does compress after a while. Still very comfortable and so far the aches and pains haven't returned. The wool pillows were a disappointment however - quite lumpy and fluffing them each day didn't really help. In the end I took half the filling out of one pillow and added it to the other and the extra seemed to stop the filling moving around so muchIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!10

Sorry if this isn’t the right place for this question. I have an adult daughter who is wheelchair dependent and also has raynauds so struggles with the circulation in her feet and hands. I’ve bought numerous wheelchair covers but none seem to keep her bottom half warm. I’ve bought her oodies that keep her top half so warm but really struggle for her legs and feet. Any ideas?8

Jaybee
what some ski trousers? They,re well insulated and padded and would help to keep her lower body and legs warm.11 -

Core temperature is maintained in just about any air temperature by my heated waistcoat (Amazon, £30 delivered). The gloves I use were considerably more expensive (like £100 more expensive) but are designed for skiing. Waistcoat's powered from a £20 10,000mAh powerbank thingy which fits easily into one of the pockets. Gloves use built-in rechargeable power packs. Both are a real boon* to me.

Laura_Elsewhere said:The water in the quarry I swim at was noticeably cooler this morning - someone with a thermometer said it was 17 C. I still stayed in for 40 minutes and didn't feel cold once swimming, but definitely, it feels that the colder months are starting now... I hope to keep swimming right through, but we'll see!
I'm about to have a hot bath as it definitely feels chillier here. I have got our fleecy, extra large, men's dressing gowns out (as they are so nice to wrap around you in bed) and I might put our hot water bottles downstairs too. I did use my sofa throw for the first time yesterday evening when I got home. I'm moving my winter jumpers into the main wardrobe today too.8 -
The hallway and door curtains have worked well. The living room thermostat was reading 20 degrees at 6am this morning despite it being only 6 degrees outside. We do have external wall insulation also which we really felt the difference of in the first year but I think now we have got used to it
Heating is obviously off.
I love fresh mornings and run pretty warm but husband was most put out that I opened all the windows straight away.
The condensation and damp feeling has returned to the house though...its not really bad but I'm sure I can feel it in the carpets and bedding...sometimes its a bit like climbing into bed whilst out camping...just that damp feelings in everything.
Dehumidifiers are coming out of the shed in the next week of 2.
We got our quotes in to replace the roof ready for solar panels. The first one was for 15k which was a bit of a shock, the next best for 11k. Its only a small end of terrace. It has the same slate roof it was built with in the 1930s so it has lived its life and will need to be done before we plan to leave (when we die) but its a shock as we borrowed money to do the roof and get solar panels but it'll now only cover the roof costs. I was tempted to back out, which I have done whenever something costs more than I expect but DH thinks we should go ahead. I'm inclined to agree, we can easily afford repayments etc, but when you've worked so hard to get to that point, its hard to look at the balance sheet and go backwards, even if it is for future prosperity
