I've just bought my mum one based on this, the 1.9l flask is £31 on Amazon and had a £5 for over £15 spend that made it £26. She loses electricity at least a couple of times a year and no coffee makes her.. grumpy.Si_Clist said:disbubblecannotpop said:THERMOS RECOMMENDATION! if anyone is after a REALLY good thermos ...FWIW Stanley flasks are expensive and they're heavy, but they're indestructible. Ours is at least 18 years old and still keeps coffee too hot to drink for well over 12 hours.11 -
I think if there is ever a time when you lose gas, you’ve got worse problems than making a cup of tea. Cutting off gas causes major problems reinstating it - I think it involves house to house visits. Other than for safety reasons gas would always be the last thing to be cut offIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!7

Luckily we have a water compartment in the fridge which is topped up several times a day and the water filter jug always gets refilled. There'd be enough to keep us going for a good few hours.Si_Clist said:

I bought an inverter (about £30 from Aldi), means I can plug it into my car then plug any normal appliance into it. It's only a just in case.CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera. You can enjoy it even if you don't understand it and too much can give you a headache the next day J7

Maybe they've changed it drastically now, but am I not right in thinking that you can indeed do that - but only if the appliance draws less than 600W?Uniscots97 saidI bought an inverter (about £30 from Aldi), means I can plug it into mance iy car then plug any normal appliance into it.
We're all doomed5 -
It's only for running a laptop and other small items and definitely only meant as an emergency rather than being stuck.Si_Clist said:

This is why I will always have a gas hob. Used to have a gas oven but when we got the separate hob and oven when had kitchen remodeled in 2009 and had oven put on wall with cupboards above and below, I decided that an electric oven might be safe and keep enough bottled water to do about a week with careful usage and drink it as loathe our tap water but don't like the taste of filtered to drink on its own but fine in everything else. Do have a Kelly Kettle and still have the gas stove and heater I had when had allotment (plus the non-electric kettle I used there) but just reminded self as typing this I need to see what state it and cannisters are (wrong time of year to replace them as always far more expensive in winter).maryb said:I think if there is ever a time when you lose gas, you’ve got worse problems than making a cup of tea. How kind - might take you up on this and get in touch to arrange prices etc. Just bought some nice merino wool socks and a couple of pairs of pure cashmere (well 97% cashmere and 3% elastic) - made in Mongolia using local goats. They were £20 a pair so was not really expecting much but they are lovely and soft and do seem like real cashmere, just not top quality. Obviously, time will tell how well they wash and stand up to wear - they are more for lounging around in house or bed not for wearing under shoes to go out. All are machine knit which will do just now but do prefer hand knit.disbubblecannotpop said:prepareathome I knit all sorts, hats, socks and wrist warmers are staples for Christmas presents from me, and merino wool is a fave yarn of mine to use for warmth
I’d be happy to help a fellow knitter, just give a shout!Need to get back to getting finances under control now kin kid at uni as savings are zilch

We live on the coast and it was really windy last night. It’s dropped a bit now but the sea is still looking fantastic.
Luckily wind and rain makes me sleepy 😴
