Just home from a rain soaked flu jab queue at local surgery, watching the rain pour down the widow panes. Will shortly have lunch from our reserve stores and spend afternoon in armchair snuggled under a charity shop blanket with a library book. Counting my blessings despite my problems.12

Well, DH and Dad both had covid boosters yesterday, and I had my flu jab this morning. I've got my little book ready to start my countdown to Christmas, starting on Monday. I have a list of things to do each week, based on the Flylady's plan,so I'm going to be all done by 1st December and I can have a stress free month!
Next week I'll be having a huge sort out in the kitchen.2025 Fashion on the ration

I got a new dressing gown this week, and my wife got one earlier this year, so we’ve given our old ones to our dogs for their beds. With a Greyhound and a Dachshund x Chihuahua they both feel the cold.
I’ve got some cuppa soups to keep warm, whilst WFH. Makes a change from coffee.
The sheets needed washing today, so the heated blanket has gone under the sheet ready for cold evenings (we don’t have the heating on much upstairs).8 -
Freezing here and rainy, so the heating has gone on for a bit. I can justify it to myself when kids are home , the thermostat was at 18deg. Bunch of library books, inc an old delia book on puddings and charity shop toy. Need to get on to insulating the eaves of the loft as the amount of heat being lost from the second floor is unreal.10

Realised I have a large duck in the freezer, a veg-box coming on 23rd December and I make my own cake and pudding (we go for trifle, it's less heavy) so if the predicted shortages arrive, I think we're good for Xmas Day.
Off to set up a spreadsheet for Xmas ....2024 Fashion on the Ration - 10/66 coupons used

Yes, we have a couple of really good chicken breasts (Norfolk Black) in the freezer, so if it all goes a bit dire, we shall have an enjoyable meal for Christmas Day!

A bright, dry and breezy morning, so we stripped the bed and got the mattress off and My Intended has been hefting the dozen big underbed storage boxes around so he can vacuum all round and under and between them, so we know there's no moth-food-fluff under there! I try to get him to do this twice a year, but it's a big and awkward job (there is no actual floor-space in the bedroom to move he boxes to, and they are very very heavy, filled wth his tools and so on) so I always feel pleased when it's done!
With last weekend's bedroom window-cleaning, outside and in (tricky, being on the top floor of the flats!), and the winter duvet on, it makes me feel like at least *one* room is really prepared for the change in seasons...
Also, I made a dozen jars of red Mirabelle jam and three of red Mirabelle syrup (the Mirabelle plums foraged during the week by spreading a sheet below and rattling the branches with a rake!), and a bottle of Hedgrow Syrup and two large jars of Hedgerow Jelly using up the last oddments I picked this week, 3 or 4 damsons, a few clusters of elderberries, half a handful of blackberries, some rosehips, and the stones from the red Mirabelle jam!2025 remaining: 37 coupons from 66:

My Son is finally going back to his work place tomorrow so that’s one less in the house during the day! Just me and my elder Daughter still WFH now and we can work together in the living room or dining room so I won’t have to heat upstairs during the day (when the heating eventually clicks on),Yippee!!It’s lovely to hear what everyone is doing to prepare themselves for the coming months.Getting some great ideas.x7

I really don,t enjoy winter and the cold but perversely I also enjoy reading about everybodys' winter preparation plans. There are always things we can learn from each other. I think what I most enjoy is the change of menus as we migrate from one season to another and enjiy the best seasonal foods. There,s nothing quite like tucking into a steaming hot bowl of soup or tasty casserole in winter which we probabky wouldn,t at all enjoy in warm weather so certainly we need to make the most of what the different seasons have to offer.12
