I've bought a 5pk of socks.
They are saying we are getting another heat wave coming !6 -
The shawl is really lovely, I may have to have a go some time, crochet isn't my first go to but I can do the basics and made a few simple blankets. Thinking on I did buy a few packs of Ald$ do wool last year and haven't used it...
I went through my medicine box and I enough cold and flu stuff etc but no analgesics, so they have gone onto my list, I think I have the important stuff but it's things like a torch I still have to get. I may do a box to put bits into in case the electric goes off and have a designated place for it. What do you all do?

Have a box and KNOW WHERE IT IS- be able to find it in the dark. Candles matches torches and lanterns.

NannygI've stocked up on painkillers and also dental gel in case of toothache. I use hayfever tablets during the season and have found they work well for sinus infections too so will stock up on them next time I'm at the pharmacy before they reduce the stocks.I use the surgical disposable facemasks with soft ear loops and despite the easing of restrictions will stock up on those at the pharmacy. The pharmacists wear those and they're a good fit, gentle and secure on the ears with a good nose clip.Batteries for anything that needs them. My landline phone needs batteries for the 1571 message service and there are a lot more messages from surgery, hospitals and clinics now with delays and backlogs for face to face appts. I've just had to replace the batteries again. My alarm clocks are battery as electric wont work in power cuts. It's worth you getting spare batteries when you buy the torch. I always have spare ones plus a couple of bulbs.I keep spares in a cupboard along with light bulbs. We get a fair number of power cuts in bad weather and sometimes a light bulb will blow.I don't know if Ikea still sell the solar lights . I've had mine a few years and they're very useful as long as they're kept charged up in daylight.pollyx
It is better to light a single candle than to curse the darkness.
There but for fortune go you and I.8 -
So OK then ...If the shops shut at 4pm today (Sunday) and stay shut indefinitely, how long can you last on what you have in the house now? What's the first thing you'd be stuck for? We're all doomed6

Not sure how we long we could last for. Our stores are fairly good but my OH is definitely more inflexible than me in what he likes his breakfast to consist of so thst might be an issue.
Fresh milk would definitely be a crucial item for us so probably a reminder to stock up on some long life alternatives again. Thanks for the nudge!Lockdowns have sometimes caused us to ponder on this issue. I guess in the end we,d probably all be reduced to eating some rather weird combinations. As a wartime baby , I wish My mum was still alive to share her memories on how difficult it was coping with rationing and food shortages. . I never remember going really hungry but we rarely had the snacks we have today. A raw carrot or chunk of apple was probably the best one could expect or very occasionally a doughy baked mixture where you could play "Hunt the sultana !"8 -
Milk would be our first thing to go, we use lots of it every week! We have some UHT but it still wouldn't be enough to last long

We have a couple of those wind up camping lamps which are very useful. They sit gathering dust in the living room but ai tested them the other day and they're still very much fit for purpose, so useful if yiu can't get out to the shops for batteries. And I still have my stock of leftover Three Day week candles !!
