Lesson learnt lol. I still.l say they'll keep you warmer in bed !
*Had the electric fire on in the sitting room to clear the foisty smell. My cat loved lying infront of it.
*Daughter tried on her second hand new winter coat and wants scarf this year.7 -

Hi guys
My sister bought me for Xmas ( finally swapped and opened in June) a lovely warm shawl thing. I say thing because I don’t know what category it is really. It’s like a poncho but the front is open so will be really easy to pop over whatever you’re wearing. I suppose I could fasten the front together with a big brooch too if I wanted to. It’s very windy here and shawls and scarves don’t stay put if just draped.
There was a feel of autumn this morning. It’s my favourite season.
I’ve been going through my clothes and some of my summer tunic dresses will carry on through the winter with the addition of wooly tights, a cardigan and boots. I might as well get use out of them and I’m more comfortable wearing layers. My husband chuckles every time I buy a cardigan because I’ve loads, but I can always make use of one more.Anyway I better get on, I’ve got some veg that needs prepping and squeezing into the freezer before it goes off.
Bye for now

I’ve put new batteries in 2 torches. I’m sure we used to have more! We don’t get as many power cuts as we used to.
What we did have a few years ago was a terrible road accident in the village. It took the police 45 minutes to get here so villagers had to shut main roads in 4 directions (no street lights for 5 miles so pitch black). We’ve all got hi-vis jackets since then, in our homes and cars.
I still need to check the hats and gloves situation.
Ive got a few bags of logs in the shed but am looking forward to using the central heating - I’ve never had any before!9 -

If nothing else that would be another way to help persuade more folk to have bloomin' smart meters."Power companies say smart meters will help to minimise number of power cuts" Read all abaht it ...

Last year I fetched it out and it is lovely. Easy to just chuck on when you feel a bit cool and it snuggles.
In fact, I'm going to go upstairs and fetch it because I'm feeling a bit cooler than the thermostat thinks it is.8 -

Ooooh, September tomorrow so yes, time to think about winter prep.
I have lot of woolly jumpers and cardigans so that should be fine.
I could definitely do with a few more pairs of leggings though, and a couple of those fleecy lined ones. I wonder where is best to get them?
Despite buying an expensive pair of walking boots last year, they now let in water. And the welly boots I bought last year were a terrible fit so I gave them away. As I am out with the dog twice a day I'm definitely going to have to get some sort of supportive waterproof boots, but I don't know what ones I would like that will be within my budget and will last. I have plantar faciitis and hyper-mobile joints so I need to be quite picky with shoes.
My winter coats should be fine - I must remember to wash and waterproof them though, and do any mending necessary
I'm okay for quilts - my eiderdown is laundered so that can go on my bed when it's needed, and I have a couple of extra blankets as well.
Hot water bottle is where it should be.
I should definitely get my house blankets washed. They are currently covered in dog hair!
I've tested my heating and it seems fine - but I am going to try and keep it off until November. I never seem to last quite that long, but the longer I leave it the more I appreciate it and the more money I save :-).
I'm not going to pull out my proper winter wardrobe until I need though. I have enough tunics and cardigans to be getting on with for now and swapping things over is such a faff.
I probably should think about a breakdown kit for the car, and a power cut kit for the house. I'm not prone to either where i am, but it wouldn't hurt.
I'll have to think about what to do about winter fuel this year. I have GCH, but also an open fire which I love. Now its only smoke free coal though, its just not the same. Can't get the heat or the merry blaze or the small. I'm going to have a bit of a go with logs and see how I get on, but they aren't ideal for small terraced house open fires, so I'm not optimistic. Hopefully a bit or trial and error will get me something worth paying for and lighting, even if its just for a treat on a particularity cold or miserable day.Live the good life where you have been planted.
