Washing two of my black winter coats right now in the machine. One is a per Una down coat which I bought last year in the sale. They will take a couple or three days to really dry but the conservatory will help allot hanging them on the clothes airer. I will get them out on the line today to begin the process of the big dry.

I got the suede boots spray protected yesterday in the garden - that stuff stinks! I also nourished my leather gloves as well and those have dried beautifully.

I will need to go into Primarni about November time and stock up on the fleecy socks they do. Brilliant for the wellington boots and they are in constant use so I get my moneys worth out of them.

Three blown glazing units have been replaced today. That's all windows repaired now.
Wood burner for the dining room being delivered in the next fortnight. I'm going to get our coal and logs ordered to take advantage of summer prices.:D:D
We need a new back door as well but have run out of renovation funds at the moment. Will have to save up to be done next spring.
The money can only go so far but it doesn't half go rapidly!

Also looking to buy a new duvet for our bed. Has anybody tried the four seasons one which velcros together and would you recommend?

I had one which I had to press stud together and it was a nightmare. But I'm a proper wriggler when I'm sleeping so it properly didn't help. Some mornings I wish I had glued the bottom sheet on as its so tangled. I think Velcro fastening probably would have been better.

I had delivery of cuddle fleece yesterday so I need to line two sets of curtains soon. Mind you the weather is so up and down lately I might just get it done sooner rather than later.

Brrrr my feet are freezing tonight.

Well the workmen have finally finished (until the electrician comes to do the safety certificate and put things right).
    • All our windows are resealed on the outside (I'm doing the inside as I decorate each room ;))
    • the front door is no longer draughty after they relocated the weather stripping (now I know what to do I can do it myself should it move, I didn't know it had moved :o) but will still need replacing next year as its wooden and constantly expanding and contract so there's cracks which open up in the panels when its dry for more than a day or two
    • New bath with panels is in, shower is in, I just need to prime then paint the plywood they used to box in the pipes. We've gained about an inch or so of floor space due to the way they've fitted it, which in our tiny bathroom is a huge deal, but we definitely need new flooring now
    • New back gate is fitted and its not a snug fit like the old one, its also pressure treated wood by the looks of it so should be fine in all weathers. :D
    • The tops of the walls surrounding the garden are now capped and most of the pointing has been repaired. Considering the garden is about 8m x 8m and has walls about 2m high on 3 sides I'm not surprised there's a few bits missed. But I love how methodical and calming pointing is so I'll grab a bag of the appropriate stuff and finish the job off myself ;) I did the walls in the yard of our old house so I'm know what I'm doing ;) This also means no more getting the ladders out and trying to weed the tops of the walls which is a big relief as it was a pain in the neck because the slabs slope away from the wall and I always felt like I was going to fall off.
    • All the gaps between the paving slabs are pointed so that will stop the amount of weeding we have to do. DD is very happy as I tend to give that to her to do. ;)
    • New back door has been fitted. Its a UPVC half glazed unit. It will need a curtain up at it for the winter, and I'm going to put a blind over the glass as well for privacy. The amount of light in the kitchen now is amazing. From an A5 window to a huge window is great, and my dog isn't so worried about being locked out side while my landlady was here as he could see me moving around inside the kitchen :D That will hopefully prevent him from scratching the door as I have to pay for any repairs to it!
    • The kitchen ceiling (Nightmare since we moved in with one thing and another) has be re-plastered so now I'm waiting on that to dry out then I can get on with decorating the kitchen :D
I'm exhausted from keeping the dog entertained whenever the workmen were here. The first hour or so he had to be constantly distracted, after that he was mainly just nosy every now and then. It was just all the coming and going that caused problems. My kitchen is in no fit state to cook in so we're having takeaway tonight. There is plaster dust in the air, you can actually taste it :( I'm hoping overnight the worst of it will settle and I'll be able to clean it up tomorrow. DD is supposed to be baking for her dad for fathers day :(
Creeping back in for accountability after falling off the wagon in 2016.
Need to get back to old style in modern ways, watching the pennies and getting stuff done!
  • Right, made a start this week by buying some lovely handmade fingerless gloves from Etsy. Nice bright shade of red (need the bright colours to keep oneself cheerful over winter), only £5 plus a little extra for postage. Might go back in a few months and get a hat from the same seller as well.

I was just going through my winter stuff last night. I have all my cosy slippers, jumpers, poncho and warm dressing gown stored in my chest of drawers during summer.

I was thinking I need a new winter coat as I don't really like the red one I have so I will be looking out for a neutral coloured one, maybe grey or black, in the next few months.

Ah, I love this thread. Autumn and winter are my favourite part of the year, so just getting prepared for them makes me feel good.

Off to print off the list that Rainy-Days so kindly put on here. Thank you!
    Saving, decluttering and doing alright.
